Sooraj Pancholi might be charged under Jiah Khan murder case; CBI update
In July 2014, the Bombay High Court transferred the Jiah Khan murder case to CBI. Over a year after the transfer, the Central Bureau of Investigation is all set to produce a fresh report of the case. News sources suggest a soon to be filed charge sheet (by the CBI) in Jiah Khan's alleged suicide may lead to Sooraj and Aditya Pancholi being charged with abetment.
On the same, a CBI official has been quoted by a publication saying, "There are enough reasons for the two to be charged." The statement was made on the basis of the documents that the CBI recovered during raids conducted at the Pancholis' Juhu residence in May this year. These include things like hand written letters exchanged between Jiah and Sooraj, mobile handset clones from a forensic laboratory, phone call details, emails, text messages and Facebook chats.
The CBI also had an interrogative session between a guard posted at Sagar Sangeet Building in Juhu, where Jiah lived with her mother Rabia Amin; a cook who accompanied the Pancholis when they rushed to the site of the suicide. That apart a number of people from the Hindi film and fashion fraternity, and a jewellery designer who Khan had suspected of having an affair with Sooraj were also questioned.
What also helped CBI to come to a decision were Khan's mother's statement. As per a newspaper report, Rabia, who had alleged that her daughter was murdered, is believed to have virtually recreated the scene of the fateful day, describing to officials how she discovered her daughter's hanging body when she returned home at 11 pm from a function with her friends.
For the unawares, On June 10, 2013, the police arrested Sooraj and booked him for abetment to suicide on the basis of the letter. On July 1, 2013, the Bombay High Court granted the 22-year-old bail. The HC had observed that the letter, purportedly written by the deceased and found at her home, could not be considered a suicide note since it wasn't addressed to anyone in particular and was undated. CBI is set to present its fresh report soon.
