Despite the mind-boggling Rs35 crore deal for three films, Hrithik Roshan is not the highest paid actor in India. Shubha Shetty-Saha spoke to several industry insiders to figure out who stands where in the pecking order, and came away with a few surprises.
1 Rajnikanth: For Sivaji, he will get Rs30 cr — Rs15 cr plus a share of BO revenues. He is the second highest-paid actor in Asia.
2 Shah Rukh: He bagged Rs12 cr for Don. That makes him, and not Hrithik, the highest paid star in Bollywood.
3 Hrithik Roshan: His three-film deal with Adlabs means he will get slightly more than Rs11 cr per film.
4 Chiranjeevi: The Telugu superstar makes at least Rs8 crore per movie, apart from a percentage of profits.
5 Aamir Khan: For The Rising he was paid Rs7 cr. He took less (Rs5 cr) for Rang de Basanti due to Rising's bad show.
6 Kamal Hassan: Despite several flops down south, a couple up north, Hassan still commands Rs5 cr a film.
7 Salman Khan: He charges Rs4.5 cr per film. Industry insiders say the good showing of Jaan-e-Mann will jack up his price.
Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan charge more (Rs3 crore per film) than Abhishek Bachchan (Rs2.5crore per film). The highest paid female Bollywood star is Aishwarya Rai at Rs2 crore per film, while Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor tie in for the second position at Rs1.5 crore per film. Priyanka Chopra takes Rs1 crore per film.
