bakwas could not stand it, in spite of going with a close group of friends in the cinemas, only the songs were good
Personally, I think it could've been a great story to watch specially for hopeless romantics like myself. They had great music to build the mood, the lead actors shared the correct kind of intense chemistry required in a star-crossed love story and the old-world charm. But I also agree with the one who said that such people who still like eternal love stories are a very minor part of cinegoers these days.
However, I do feel this is beyond it being a taste issue. I feel Pankaj Kapur failed to translated his vision of telling a tale of love, separation and reunion on the screen. He gave too much importance to 'what' separated Harry and Aayat with little emphasis on how these separations affected them as individuals and as people in love. In all my favourite Bollywood romances, it is the characters who shone and left a mark. But in this film, one couldn't root for the reunion of these two because the audience was never given a chance to invest in it's characters or their love story.
Poor editing was definitely a another major reason. Like someone mentioned, there were so many 'separating events' that one stopped caring beyond a point. For example, the whole 9/11 chunk and Switzerland bit could've easily been chopped off. What an unnecessary misunderstanding! And like many have pointed out, the erratic screenplay also made it a tiresome film to watch.

Most stars and well known actors siblings fail in Bollywood. Salman, Aamir, Shilpa, Krithi, Bhumi, Kajol, Shahid, Katrina and most superstars...
