Adi Chopra is a character's director (I just came up with that term similar to director's actor and character writers, sorry if it doesn't make sense). More than the plot of films, the characters stay with the audience. Despite being larger than life, they're weirdly relatable and layered and I can't help rooting for them.

He captures his locations well. I like the way he presents his heroes. Makes me wish for lovers like them. He brings out decent performances from his cast members (go on calling SRK's performance in DDLJ and Mohabbatein as overacting, I don't agree).

I think he needs to have a crisper vision and tighter control on his screenplay. He beats around the bush a little too much in his storytelling.

Btw, I am mostly talking from DDLJ and Mohabbatein PoV. RNBDJ didn't have the repeat value the other two did for me so I don't remember much of it except that it was his weakest.

Overall, he isn't a pathbreaking director in cinematic terms but strictly speaking of romance as a genre, I think he excels in making us feel that love is in the air.
