Lol Can a question be stupider? She is the biggest female superstar of Indian cinema ever.

Why has BOI ranked her #2 despite the 5 yr break? She is the no. 1 for the decade 2000-09. She carried films like HDDCS, Taal on her shoulders despite other stars. Her solo international debut raked in 24 million dollars which was higher than any bolly film that year.

Filmfare voted her as the MOST POPULAR ACTRESS in 100 Yrs of Indian cinema.

She has so many awards and accolades, International honors like the french honor for her contribution to cinema. The 4th highest civilian honor PadmaShri and she was the youngest one to receive it. The list is looong. All haters can do is be jealous, on the other hand she already has 5 films in her kitty even before returning. Burn Baby burn!

Between 1950 to 1960, this woman was listed amongst ten most beautiful women in the world along with Raani Gayathri. Have any idea who it is? It is not Madhubala, Nutan or Waheeda Raehman. She is called Leela Naidu, who was crowned Miss India in 1954 and acted in many offbeat films. She was a very popular face in the media (specially western). But the popular actresses among common Indians have been Madhubala or Vaijayantimala.

Today's media is more powerful, so it can project a face what it perceives most beautiful as most popular. But it cannot change the box office verdict. True, Madhuri or Sridevi may not have won any contest or been popular with media. But they survived long and delivered hits.

Aishwarya has shined when the movie expected her to be just sweet and beautiful like a model (Taal). She was as beautiful as a flower there. But when she had to represent an ordinary girl in a movie, she failed as her face failed to emote. Juhi has also carried a Miss India title. But she so effortlessly looked like a girl from chawl in Raju Bangaya Gentleman.

To be a superstar, one has to win single screen audience. Even now, the movies that sell in single screen are masala movies (which is ruled by Salman, Ajay and Akshay). But multiplexes which have taken over them off late, are able to sell content movies. Aishwarya came when both existed. Despite being media darling, she could not win mass appeal (single theatre). My friend used to say, she looks too soffesticated and delicate to imagine her as a middle class girl she tried to portray on screen. So, her movie with Anil Kapoor (Hamara Dil Aap Ke Paas Hei) flopped. Around same time, Kajol could give hit with the same hero (Hum Aapke Dil Mei Rehte Hei). I just wondered, how such a crap movie could be a hit. But those years (before Kajol got married), she had a Midas touch.

As far as Madhuri's flops, that was when she started to loose her form (post 1997, I guess). She did come back and win a filmfare award in Dil To Pagal Hei. But most of her fans had already shifted their loyalty to Karishma in that movie. Her movie with Rahul Khanna, I can't recall that movie except for a dance . But in a male led industry, where a male lead can romance a girl of his daughter's age, being a female lead for a father (Vinod Khanna in the beginning of her career) and son later, itself is an achievement for an Indian actress.

Madhuri do have weaknesses. (I have written it somewhere else). She emphasises on dancing over acting. But her audience have evolved towards content driven movies. I have not watched any of her recent movies because I can't relate to any of them. (though they might be good). If she can act as a middle aged urban lady in a content driven movie without any dance, her audience would return.

With media being so powerful, actresses like Kareena, Aish and even Katrina are made out to be stars. In reality, they can be compared to Zeenat Aman or Parvin Bhabhi in early 80s who shined along with Amitabh. On their own, they did leave their identity. But they could not carry a film on their shoulder.

Please double check your information. Hamara Dil Aapke Pass Hai was a big hit and a success. It was one of Ash's most critically acclaimed films and she was nominated at every single award show that year for her performance! Clearly you dont know what youre saying lol

For someone who was VERY into Bollywood in 2000, i can tell you for sure that HDAPH was NOT a "big hit". It was an average grosser that was dragged by the critics for the director's attempt at rehashing HADMRH. And as far as nominations are concerned then 2000 was such a crappy year in Bollywood history that everyone and their mama got nominated.

But anyways, people who think Aishwariya is not a superstar are clearly biased.

Its funny how in Ash's case BOI is disregarded, its the so called bible when it comes to other stars, so why in Ash's case its always wrong? 😆😆

Also, For someone who was VERY into Bollywood in 2000 it seems like you are HORRIBLY misinformed!

So you're saying that Ash was nominated for the sake of being nominated? And that everyone and their mama got nominated 😆😆 What nonsense, do you want to know who was nominated at the awards that year?

Tabu - Astitva
Madhuri- Pukar
Karishma - Fiza
Ash - HDAPH
Preity Zinta- Kya Kehna

^ Look at that. Everyone and their mama got nominated ? Really? The above named roles are considered one of the best roles of the all of the nominees. All very strong roles, How can you even say everyone and their mama got nominated? That just shows how LITTLE you know! Please double check your facts!

I stand corrected. "Aap Ka Dil Hamare Paas Hei" was a hit. Of course I was making a generalised statement from my memory as a viewer, not as an expert statistician. It was not a big hit to be remembered and I did not bother to look at the exact statistics. But this fact does not disprove my "ranting". My question was, has she been able to deliver a hit with a non established actor with a nonsense script?
(I think, this movie was a hit in Andhra before. Also Anil is not his brother).
I still remember a scene from the movie. Anil Kapoor is ill and someone from office comes for some official work. Aishwarya, who is concerened about Anil's health (I can't recall character names, nor bother to look for it in a website. You can brand me again 😉), blasts at that employee. That scene shows Ash's limitations as an actress. She got the best actress award, beating ... (there is a list, including Tabu) for this movie? It says less about her and more about the award. 👏

For the one who spoke about Rishi Kapoor. The seventies hero who romanced Neetu, Padmini Kolahapure was different from the hero after mid eighties. I don't know, whether his worst one was with Divya Bharati or Tabu. (Yes. Today's Khans also look like uncles in front of new girls. But at least, they can deliver hits without them. Rishi could not even do that).

End of the day I am not anybody's loyal fan including Madhuri's. I pay if I hear the the movie is good, irrespective of the actor/actress involved. But I acknowledge if someone is/was a superstar. Was movie "Raja" a hit? Yes. Did I watch? NO. I liked "Kabhie Haan, Kabhie Naa" instead. I wish good luck to Aish for Jazba, though I have my apprehension. (Her comfort zone is delicate/feminine expressions. She struggles to get that rough and tough look on her face). If the movie is good, let it get the viewers it intends to. It would be another push towards content driven movies.
