So? They made what 30-40 crores
That is good for their budget and scale but not really something great
Even then half a dozen good films in seven monthsr is not exactly great

A year for smaller films. Biggies failed.

Films with good scripts did exceptionally well!

Probably a sign that the viewers have finally turned the corner?

People are appreciating good scripts, even Salman must have learned a lesson that script is the BAAP.

If Script is the BAAP, how come Baby, Gabbar, Shamitabh, NH10 couldn't even get a Clean Hit tag? Why Average - SemiHit Tag then?

Now Drishyam with equally good script couldn't even get a opening, Ajay, Akki, Amitabh kind of stars in them still films struggling to just get a HIT tag 😆

Nowadays Trend is changed as you have to SPREAD A HUGE GOOD WOM, if u do so, those small films manage to get HIT tag, a Big star film pushes ahead in terms of business, nothing else.

I think the best year in terms of content & performances has been 2012 in the recent years..Kahaani, Barfi, EV, Gangs of Wasseypur, Vicky Donar, OMG, Paan Singh Tomar, Cocktail ( or atleast Deepika's performance) etc..Almost every single film was a gem & the performances were top notch..Any other year and PC, Sri Devi, Kareena or even Deepika would have swept the awards cos the competition was that tough..Same with the guys..Ranbir, Irrfan, Akki, Aamir, HR ( Agneepath, one of the few films where i felt he din ham 😆), Emraan ( Shangaai was crap but EH was fabulous IMO) etc..So yeah, this year has been good with a lot of good films doing well so far but lets see if it can beat 2012 by the end of the year..

^ this
only the films with something genuinely likable about them did well.
These films were hyped to be something else, and ended up being complete duds (Roy, Shamitabh, Bombay Velvet, Humari Adhuri Kahaani)... rightfully flopped

There was a time when films like Ardh Satya, Saraansh, Daddy couldn't even do good business plus went unnoticed when released on big screens. This was that content driven cinema. At that time, Single Screens were thr. Even films like Swades, Dil Se, Phir Milenge, failed badly.

With Multiplex coming into business, now that Content Cinema supported by a strong Critics circle with major Social media influence, now has started to boom the business of those content films.

Like in Gurgaon, a huge chain of multiplexes have this specific set of audience who will watch a Shamitabh kind of film compare to any popular cinema like Kick or Rowdy Rathore. Now this segment of audience is increasing every year which is helping those small films.
