Should Celebrities be Considered Role Models?

Celebrities are meant to entertain us- through acting. Though I'm not a celebrity myself, I am pretty sure that they don't get into the job to "make a difference." Making a difference is just something they could do on top of that- not required or expected.

It isn't their job to be role models. Sure, their jobs put them in the public eye and they should use every chance to help the world but people aren't perfect.

Why do we then scrutinise every little thing a celeb says/does OFFSCREEN?

surely, one should be judged by their PROFESSION which is what they do onscreen

why care so much for their personal lives?

They are not supposed to be considered that.

But they become responsible when fans start worshipping them.

Now that's not their fault. But they enjoy stardom coz of their fans. So when they can enjoy perks of being celebrity. With perks comes responsibility.

Only if the audience lack grey cells and can't understand the difference between reel and real. Going by idiots like Shobha De, won't be amazed to see an army of dumbo heads...

isn't it the parents responsibility to teach the young ones what is right/wrong? that they should be the role models for the kids growing up.

Adult fans well should be smart enough not to be influenced or care about a celebs offscreen persona.

No one should be considered a role model for that matter, not even one's parents.

People are free to consider anyone their role model as long as they are not just blindly supporting and following their idol through thick and thin, so to speak. For example, I used to idolize Christian Bale fanatically, as a preteen/teen, I watched all his movies, all his interviews...the whole nine yards. However, when his terminator rant surfaced on the media, I just couldn't bring myself to like him off screen anymore. I still think he is a brilliant actor and will watch his movies at the theater, no doubt. But I no longer care for him beyond that point, ever since that outburst. Just don't blindly follow anyone, know when to stop is all I have to say on this topic.

Some celebs, yes. Leo, Sandra, Matt, Tom Hanks, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert I ca see admiration for them and why people might idolize them.
But then are certain people, no matter how talented, it's so hard to idolize b/c of their actions like Bill Crosby, Roman Polanski, Woody Allen. It's to keep the professional and personal sides separate as part of the audience but to put them on a pedestral doesn't make sense to me personally.

I used to love Bale too. American Psycho, Equilibirum, Midsummer Night's Dream. He's a brilliant actor even before the Batman series happened. I totally get you. 😆
