Acting wise in Piku no doubt Amitabh B was the best part and so was the man who was playing his servant. Their interactions were hilarious.

Deepika might have played many different type of roles but to me her dialogue delivery has ruined it for me.

Let her enjoy the popularity as we all know how small this is for actresses in BW.

<strong>Heard Finding Fanny was horrible glad did not watch that movie.

I thought I was the only one in the forum who found Piku overrated 😆 & nor was Deepika's character a challenge! I don't know why it is compared with Anushka's NH10 or Kangana's TMWR > those were challenging roles & perfomances which were amazing.

I agree that was one of Amitabh's best performance! He had to lose that bigger than life aura he had & he did it beautifully & became the annoying Bhaskor he didn't get the much deserved appraisal.

Deepika is no doubt a good actress- she nails expressions & emotes really well! Her dialogue delivery is what she needs to work on. Piku was okay I would rate Meena much higher as a performance of Deepika.

She can't totally detach herself from masala films because that gives her more popularity than art films would.

Ditto! I don't find her convincing enough onscreen. Just because she improved n her films were box office hits, ppl have put her on a pedestal..IMO someone who lacks the basics of acting i.e voice modulation and dialouge delivery cannot be termed as a "great actress." or maybe the standards in BW have gone down.😕

It has when it comes to acting standards in BW, Deepika is mediocre

Agree that Piku performance wasn't all that great. She was good but nothing pathbreaking, didn't seem like a challenging character. Story, screenplay was the hero of that film. Unlike say Kangana or Priyanka whose performances overshadow even mediocre scripts.
So no, Deepika's stardom comes from the big films, but she's smart in that she's made sure she had good roles in those films and not just been a flowerpot.

Tbh she has improved a lot from her oso or bah days!
But she is strictly a decent actress who can do the job but cant nail it. Her dialogue delivery is her weak link!
She might surprise me in bm though! Let's see!
Oops I just realized this thread is about stardom.

Nope big films like Race 2, CE, YJHD made her famous!

She chooses content based films now because she is someone to cash on today!

No. And I think she knows this.

That Accidental Apprentice rumour was around for ages, but during Piku promotions she clearly said she hasn't signed it. Now there's news Sriram Raghavan is moving on to some other film.

Makes me think that DP wants the best of both worlds. She wants to do the smaller content films, but she wants to balance it with the big masala A-list hero type films because she has found success in both.

Problem is I don't think she wants to be reduce to a flowerpot anymore. I watched CE this weekend and her role was actually one of the best things about the film. But roles like that don't come around very often for actresses do they?

I agree about expressions but what's the use when you can not modulate in your voice what your face is saying.
Meena was the only character of Deepika I liked.
Well it turns out you are not the only one, my cousin was watching only Piku she turned it off in half of the movie and my uncle found it nonsensical.
To bad Amitabh B deserved all the praise for his acting as annoying Bhaskor. The deserving never get the praise while the popular one gets it all whether it's worth it or not.

I think its Kangna who got famous for content based films!
Nobody used to care about her when she was doing Rascal and that kinda shit.

Fashion. Queen, TWM etc brought her fame!

the one who said this, I completely agree.

I will also go on to say that DP enjoys a certain amount of popularity among both the masses and classes. This gives her the currency to choose content-based roles, now the point is whether she can gain popularity only on those, I gather? That is the question the TM is asking.

I think yes, she can. Because times are changing. Nowadays content-based films like Badlapur and Piku are getting 70-80 crores whereas a few years earlier that would have been impossible. The audience wants to explore storytelling in cinematic craft, and the actors reprsenet the craft.

Someone like Deepu has always been a director's actress. She is very good in diff. kinds of roles and can excel in certain movies more than others. IMO her best performances have been in content cinema and 2 out of those 3 have been hits i.e. Piku, Coctail(hits) and Finding Fanny(flop).

See this--

She nails this scene in a way few actresses today can, with the exception of a Knagana maybe.

But popularity will be sustained by a mixture of CE, Ram-leela kinda role and the critically accliamed movies. She cannot abjure either, and thankfully, she knows this.
