Who remembers Mili? Who remembers New Delhi Times?

But people do remember Sholay, Suhaag, AAA! That's due to popularity and BO is just that - measure of how much people watched your film.

Lagaan might win polls but in reality nobody gave a damn about it. Gadar kept shattering records without any publicity whereas Lagaan was the most marketed movie of that year. Gadar still gets good ratings on TV. Internet polls don't reflect a thing about films. They might declare Devdas as the movie of the millennium though people remember SRK most for DDLJ, DTPH, KKHH, Baazigar etc.

Jai Santoshi Maa is an obscure film because it has no big stars and has an outdated story. But it is remembered till date due to its massive popularity and BO.

Online or in so called critic circles you may rant on Anand but in real life, people are crazy about Aradhana and its songs till date.

Haiders, Lunchboxes, Dhobighats have no takers except for select section of audience.

People talk of quality? How many remember Anjali? That was a superior and more real film than TZP. But they remember TZP due to its popularity.

BO doesn't matter is just an excuse to cover failure to attract public.

If a film is a hit then it is hit for a reason. It means it was watched and liked. And if an actor has consistently given hits then it means public likes him enough to repeatedly turn up and watch him. He is worth their time and money. And obviously worth it for the producer.

If people rarely come to watch your work then you are just another brick in the wall. No big deal.

D3 / PK Rates raised are highest in Bollywood history, especially PK, film is No.1 at BO, no Wonder raising so much rates u got the desired figures & then PPL talk about QUALITY 🤣

3I was released on 1/3 Screens, still D3/PK couldn't even come close to magnitude of it's Success, also Footfalls were low. Now raising the bar of Ticket Prices was meant SPECIFICALLY to achieve that HUGE EXPECTATION of 300+ Crore, else, if it would have been on Normal Hike, PK would not have been even crossed 250 Cr. You talk about Quality, don't raise Ticket Price, come with same format, show me if it can do that mcuh?? Can It? If they don't, Then BO is out of context?

since long time trying to tell you who stop you to not increase price ok lets start with BB ask them hike the price and pls increase more than PK than i will see it will cross PK or not public will pay high price for high demand product so now this my challenge to you ask Salman Khan to increase price of BB tickets and i will see who will pay for this ordinary product , people like to pay only for trust able product D3 is not good product but people trust on Aamir Khan that's why they paying lets do this exercise with BB and come with high price and see the result otherwise stop to give this stupid excuse

I absolutely agree with your post.

Not every movie makes 100-200 crore. And that is not the ONLY criteria to judge a good/successful movie.

AAA was flop. Today it's a Cult movie. DCH - Average. That's another cult. Years from now, people will only remember/talk relevant cinema. Lootera may be snoozefest for some, it's a classic for many. 😊

Arsal has answered it so precisely.

It depends on the movie if your favorite.. if the movie fails or underperforms it is quality you would be harping about while if the same actor makes a 300 cr movie, it would be the same pan who would make the first post..
Ultimately the success of the movie pies in the fact that people would remember seeing it many years down the road like chak de ddlj rdb or 3idiots.. not gonna name pk cuz em in the minority who hated the film

Finally, I see a topic worth a read in this forum which not based on irrelevant articles by pinkvilla or other sides.
And you have raised a very valid point to which I agree.Amitabh Bachhan, the megastar, also had some major flops written onto him before he became THE STAR.Similarly it goes for today's gen.

People remember quality also only in case of mainstream stars (popular, BO friendly).

I wonder how many actually watched films like Mandi, Ankur, Anjali, Iqbal etc

Baat karte hain quality ki! šŸ˜†

Yes BO matters. That's why your Kanganas, Vidyas etc got recognised only after giving back to back hits on their own.

Oh and Amitabh wasn't giving flops for whole decade since he debuted. šŸ˜† Never looked back after 1973. These days people keep giving flops for decades with just 1 or 2 clean hits and still beg to be considered stars or successful!

Can't climb higher so let's set the bar lower. Sour grapes. šŸ˜‰
