Katti Batti : Was Hard To Get Imran-Kangana Dream Cast, Says Nikhil Advani

Director Nikhil Advani says he had to work very hard to get his "dream cast" of Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut for his latest film "Katti Batti".

"The first person to come in my mind for the role of Maddy was Imran Khan. I didn't want anyone else, I just wanted him," Nikhil Advani said at a press conference on the trailer launch of "Katti Batti".

"Katti Batti" is an urban romcom between two very different people. A sudden turn of events creates a distance between them.

Nikhil said he had to work very hard to get his dream cast of Imran and Kangana.

"Imran read the script and said it is rubbish. I said, please let me narrate it to you', and then we went to his place, I narrated him the story, and then he said, yes it is very different now', and only then he said okay," the filmmaker said.

Nikhil said "Queen" actress Kangana also took her time, but she made her mind to get onboard.

"And thanks to Kangana Ranaut. I remember after two hours of narration, she said, we should try this, we should try that, and when she said we', I was like, thank god, she said yes," he said.

Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapoor and Nikhil under the banner of UTV Motion Pictures and Emmay Entertainment, "Katti Batti" is scheduled to release on September 18.

After censorship issues becoming overwhelming in India, filmmakers are probably imposing self-censorship to ensure that their films don't get stuck in needless issues with the Central Board of Film Certification.

Quiz Nikhil Advani whose film, Katti Batti, was earlier titledSaali Kutiya and was eventually changed and he says, "The earlier title Saali Kutiya was way too gimmicky. It was not necessary at all. The film is about the highs and lows of a relationship and what really transpires in their lives and how it all gets resolved. There is no point of getting such thing just for the buzz. I loved it but I also agreed on why we should drop it. Katti Batti sums up the idea of the film in the same way! What life is, what love is, what their relationship is is best summed up in this title."

Kangana Ranaut Talks About Her Katti Batti With Co-Star Imran Khan

She may not ascribe to titles but actress Kangana Ranaut certainly knows how to hold the court and hold forth like royalty. When asked at the trailer launch of Katti Batti who's the real queen of Bollywood without skipping a beat Kangana replied, "Is Bollywood a country. That's a lame question."

On the subject of royalty, Kangana certainly channeled a King and I vibe a la Deborah Kerr, a dramatic choice for a rainy day. Kangana explained the outfit and said, "It's a Sunday. You all were coming. I wanted to make it worth it for you all. I could have chosen to wear jeans and a t-shirt but this is just for you guys so you can get good pictures."

Co-star Imran Khan looked rather dapper as well. Even if his career hasn't shaped up as well as his sharp suits over the past two years.

Imran said, "I'm glad that I got this break. I needed to spend time with my family. My wife was pregnant, my daughter was born. These are things that happen once or twice in a lifetime, if you're lucky. There's no way I would give that up. I'm happy that I was there. That being said I'm also very happy that I'm back at work because I love to make movies."

Considering the positive reviews that Katti Batti is receiving, it seems that like R Madhavan inTanu Weds Manu Returns, Imran could be poised for his big comeback courtesy the 'Queen'.

Of which Kangana, defending Imran, said, "It's a love story and both of us have equally important parts. May be Imran has more screen space but that doesn't mean anyone's character is weak."

While Kangana can afford to be kind with co-stars, does talk of rivals ruffle her feathers? When asked about the status of her sometimes frosty sometimes friendly relationship with actress Deepika Padukone, she said with a serene smile, "It's Katti Batti."

Actor Imran Khan, who was away from Bollywood for over a year, said he does not regret the break that he took to spend time with his family. Imran was last seen in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan.

"I do not regret the time being away from films. I am glad that I got this break. In the last one-and-half-years, I was with my family, as my wife was pregnant and then our baby was born. There is nothing that would make me give up from being away with my family. I was happy being with my family," Imran told reporters here at the trailer launch of his upcoming film Katti Batti'.

"I am happy I got to do this film (Katti Batti'). It has made me satisfied, happy and fulfilled. This film is very close to my heart," he said.

The last few films that Imran did " Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola', Gori Tere Pyaar Mein', Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2 did not do well at the box office.

"I don't have any expectations from my film. There is no way to know what will happen. I had best experience while doing this film (Katti Batti'). Whatever happens, I will always be proud of this film," Imran said.

Imran, who is paired opposite Kangana Ranaut in Katti Batti', said he always wanted to work with the actress, though it did not work out earlier.

"It is for the first time we are doing a film, but we had misconnections many times. We had done photo shoot six seven years ago and we hit it off very well and we thought of doing a film together. There was time when she was doing a film and I wouldn't do that film vice versa," Imran said.

Talking about Kangana's role in Katti Batti', he said, "It is a very demanding and tricky role...very few actresses can do it. I feel no other actress could have done like her and given justice to it like her."
