Content is a king when you are going the second time for a film. Otherwise promos, actors, songs matter for a film. I am not a huge fan of Khans. Of them I only sincerely look forward to Aamir's films, because he comes with meaningful films most of the time. Which is why I watched 3 idiots and PK twice in theatre itself. And only once I caught the illogical D3. I usually don judge a film on reviews so when I watched D3 for Aamir, I was mega disappointed. Even the recent films Piku and TWMR, i watched both films twice. First time was because I am a fan of both Deepika and Kangana/Maddy. I went again because of the content. Actors, promos and songs actually decides opening day and yes good content brings it further. If Khans are the best, HNY would not have done worser than the first day. Jai Ho, Talaash, Ra One. They proved that content is still king. Khans have been around some 25-30 years so its understandable they have a larger set of audience as fans. Hrithik is only 15. Ranbir is only 8. Let them complete 20 years then we shall see.

This 20 year or 25 year argument is rubbish to put it mildly. Khans were also top draws by late 90s itself, especially SRK and SK. Those huge hits haven't come like that only!

I can't believe people ignore success earlier and suddenly come only to present as if Khans got this only after "30 years" (it hasn't even been 30 yet!).

Just excuses for other guys who FAILED to make mark of great magnitude and could only challenge but not topple Khans in any way.

I will be MORE than happy if the day comes when content and quality of the film TOWERS over all the stars. May be it will happen.. may be in my lifetime but I m not helding my breath over it.

I think we all need to realize that the REAL superstar in todays day and age is CONTENT. Content is what makes a film - Yes I do agree that content NEEDS artists to do justice to it, but at the end of the day, content is the driving force.

We put Ranbir and Vidya on a pedestal...and we dropped them to the floor just as fast...Ranbir and Vidya are still the same Ranbir And Vidya from 2011/2012...Yes they both made mistakes - Besharam, Bobby Jasoos, Bombay Velvet, Shaddi Ke Side Effects...

So people liked Ranbir in Barfi...but threw him to the floor in other movies...same with Vidya... This has happened to Kangana too, after Queen ,Revolver Rani was not a successful film (although she did not get too much flak for it)

My point here is that, i think people overreact when they see a good film and start calling the actor/actress in a good film a "superstar" "icon" "legend"

In my opinion, the truth is that if a movie does well in the box office, and is well-received - its more so because of the content NOT ENTIRELY because of the actors involved.

Tomorrow if Kangana does a shitty film, I doubt anyone will call her Queen. Alia went from SOTY to Highway in just 1 film - that in itself shows the difference content can make. Remember people used to call Vidya the 4th Khan?...Look at her today...shes almost as irrelevant as her pre-Paa days

I really believe that with the exception of 4-5 people, there are no superstars except content.

Funny when ppl rant abt khan's success in 90s and ignore sunny deol, Govinda and anil kapoor's stardom in 90s who were way bigger than khans in 90s ...khans started after 2000 when Akshay and ajay were also stars who delivered blockbusters , hits without any holidays but sadly their surname is not khan ...if khans gave few hits in 90s then HR, shahid , Ranbir etc has also given hits 😉

People's need for heroes and heroines never goes.

So whether we like it or not, I think someone else will always be king, regardless of content.

Ideally only content should be king. But that's not how it pans out.

Even in content, the routine content will never go. We might talk of quality but people's demands are diverse. So Rohit Shetty type content also gets lapped up. Gadar and Lagaan released on same day, both succeeded but Gadar was way bigger. It means conventional content will always find its audience.

Basic tastes never go away.

Sunny Deol? He often lost steam. He was in top 3. But the only time he has really roared was 2001. He was huge with masses but never cities and not at all overseas. The only Khan he ever beat was Aamir.

Akki was working in fits and starts. He had NO BBs in 90s. He has become big only from 2007. Ajay has NO BB either. Anil was down after failure of RKRCR and out of top 5 from mid 90s.

Govinda just scrapped into top 5 that too due to David Dhawan films. He has never given biggest hits except Aankhen in 1993.

So say what you will, Khans were above others.

Khan films have started trends and set the bar.

Other stars were there but not as big as Khans. Not to forget Sunny and Govinda were a decade senior but still not at top.

Sunny is the only one to take seriously if at all it has to be someone. Rest are behind.

But it's okay. Biggest stars of every era face this and people ask to prop up also rans. 😆

Regarding bad WOM, TMK couldn't enter 100 crore club despite Christmas and bad WOM. 😉

Khans still do better than others even when they get bad WOM. Hence the difference.



PS - If only masala, songs etc give hits then why are Khiladi 786, Kambakht Ishq, Himmatwala etc flops? 😆

These posts are like claims of Biswajit, Joy Mukherjee etc "also giving hits" in 60s, just to deny supremacy of Dilip Kumar-Dev Anand-Raj Kapoor trio. 😆 Reigning superstars are the ones who RULE. Not also rans. No matter what spin one puts.
