But it's useless. I know how some respond here. Laugh at you, mock your facts and examples as excuses and go on with their extreme generalisations.

Not like I am a patriot or whatever but the gross generalisations and prejudice in this forum are amusing to say the least.

Mostly by people whose only connection to India is through Bollywood and now may I say Miss. Pinto 😆 neither am I a patriot but I live in India and such kinda generalization / stereotype really bugs me.

Either through Bollywood or BBC or having lived or volunteered here for some time.

Whatever it is, it is just laughable how some of them think their limited, subjective experience is enough to generalise a country.

Oddly they will mock the ones living and working here, as entitled, privileged whatnot, but will uphold their limited experience as the true picture of a country of billion plus people, where nothing is the same even in one city!

And they wud be surprized how our south Indian film indutries r doin so well, together they can make BW look like a bhigi billi. 😆 And yes, south Indians may be darker than northies.. generally speaking.., its just the lingo diff. .. 😆 Now, freida can say northies hate southies coz the later dont speak hindi.. 😆

How diverse is India... but still its ONE India.

I have grew up there. I know there are issues, but Its nothing like some of the comments on IF either.

Yeah, that changed. In my 12th science Board exams days... there were only 30% girls in the classroom, and we boys always dominated right from that class to Gujarat state level. Top 10 in Guj. always been boys..

Now, its reversed. Almost 7 of them r girls.. 😲👏

in my computer engg class, 70% girls vs 30% boys. And I don't know a single girl who is not working now. Either in India or outside, but most of them have a career.

And I attended college 7 years back. India has progressed so much in 7 years. Its a lot different and much more advanced.

So, I don't know which India some of the members here talk about. 😕 May be of India from their parents' generation. 😆

Rani is not dark. She is dusky. If Rani is considered "dark" than how would you classify most Indians? Kajol WAS dark during her Baazigar years and all but she did some skin melanin surgery and sadly, you can't classify her as "dark skinned".. Same with SRK, with time, he got progressively lighter. Not to mention, he endorsed Fair & Handsome.

Be it Kajol, Rekha, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, etc. They all went under cosmetic treatment to lighten their skin. That is one thing about Bollywood you can't deny.

I'm Indian myself but you can't take away the fact that skin color is a HUGE factor in Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Korea, Malaysia, etc). It's all about light skin. Bollywood is not a very good representation of the demographic of India. Barring very few, most of Bollywood is all fair-skinned actors/actresses whereas, most average Indians are more dusky, brown, or wheatish in color.

Sushmita Sen is not fair.
Lara Dutta is not fair.
Now the India bashers will start saying that these two actresses couldn't become successful because they were dark.😆But the truth is they made bad choices in their respective careers that's why couldn't become successful.
Also the Chopra sisters,Priyanka and Parineeti are not fair complexioned women.Priyanka is definitely a superstar, can't say the same about parineeti.
One thing I wanna tell. It's not that only Indians or south Asians are unhappy with their skin colors.I hope they have heard about something called Skin Tanning.😉Now what's that?😆

On the topic,

I cannot deny that there is some truth in what she said abt BW and brings out the darker side of BW - if not completely but in many cases !

Why these actresses go for enhancement surgeries ..

as far as BW is concerned one can not deny BW thrives for glamour and PERFECTION ( BW Criteria includes skin color, height , weight figure etc etc ) - specially for actresses and actually the demand for perfection has only increased !! That's the reason these days so many actresses go for surgeries/enhancements/skin whitening-lightening etc ...many successful actresses have gone for surgeries e.g sridevi, shilpa shetty and many more..setting examples i.e surgery/enhancements -> success.

Rememer Jia Khan ?? She was depressed because she was asked to gain weight for some south movies ? Industry has made these budding artists ( actresses in particular ), not only budding even well established ones also ( preity/sridevi/many more ) so insecure , its pathetic and sad. Yes we do have Vidya / Nandita / Konkana / Tabu etc as well...so won't generalize !! but do they get many main stream movie offers ? so Freida does have a point here !
