Aamir Khan.
He has made a career out of it. Pushing the envelope, quality, uniqueness, trendsetting have become synonymous with his name.

Of late look at what he has done with PK, Talaash, TZP (out of the box concepts); Ghajni( thus ushering in the era of south-remakes; everyone took to copying its success while Aamir never went back to it)

If we go back stuff like Sarfarosh, Rang De Basanti and then one of most important years of his career and BW 2001. The year of Lagaan and DCH; doing such films back to back must have taken a lot of guts.

All of these movies are path-breaking and trend-setting, the impact they had on pop-culture is amazing. The interesting bit is that they were all considered career-ending risks at the point of their making.

And now in Dangal he is playing a 55 years old, father to two grow-ups. Right at his peak which I haven't seen anyone else to do. The others of his age group are same; busing finding even younger heroines to romance in the usual Masala hogwash.

Vidya Balan is the only other I can name. TDP and Kahaani were game changers and certainly qualify as pushing the envelope. Both of these movies shattered a lot of myths and Vidya became a force at the BO as well as at making quality cinema.

Everyone else is pretty much going with the flow. Ranbir and Akshay do the odd one that stands out (Barfi, Rocket Singh OMG, Special 26); but even they are mostly drawn to the commercial success. Though BV and KK biopic can certainly add to Ranbir's resume.

Well Said!...

Shahid has been trying to push the envelope from the very beginning!...he opted for very different roles in Fida, Shikhar, Chup Chup Ke after the romantic Ishq Vishq..though these films didn't work...😆

His most challenging stand out roles have been Kaminey & Haider..also RR where he was beaten mercilessly by the villain!...😆

Aamir, Ranveer, Ranbir
don't like writing long essays😆...but Ranveer among the new generation guys... he comes with BBB as a chichora.. then impresses with looks in LVRB then he jumps to a serious bearded Varun in Lootera... and then Bammm, he adds Mucch and becomes flamboyant Ram bhai...he relishes his childhood dream with Gunday and KillDil...jumps into 2015 with DDD, then booom, he jumps back to 17-1800s with Bajirao Mastani

If anyone can show this variety among any new generation actors, i will put him happily alongside Ranveer... not to forget his personal attitude which is different from everyone else..he endorses the untouchable condoms, he wears neons...he chooses maruti suzuki the indian car...
many more envelopes to be broken...he is one courageous actor
