Well .. she said lot many more things than just what is being discussed here. Her father was a doctor in army .. well that does makes you middle class. Just because she went to US doesn't means that her parents were uber-rich or anything. She basically is talking about how different it is to raise the kids today because they know so much more than what she did when she was a kid. She has earned every single penny that has gotten her to the privileged class and she is just trying to say how different it will be for her own kids because they will be born in a different environment than her own.

On a second read, isn't she saying that the fact that instead of her normal middle class upbringing the fact that she will be bringing her kids into a privileged upbringing is the scary thought?

What's wrong with a middle class upbringing? Travelling by trains, buses, buying groceries from local supermarkets, going to co-ed govt. schools etc. only make you more street smart. It's a skill that life teaches you. You can't protect your children forever.
