But why the sudden ban now? Hinduism has been around for how many centuries...it's 2015 now. (genuinely curious as to what sparked the idea to ban it)

Slaughtering was banned in most states and now Maharashtra has banned sale/possession of beef as well - earlier hotels/shops could sell beef procured from elsewhere and now they can't..
