Yes people adore Kat and look fondly whenever she appears onscreen. Kids unanimously mention her as fav in slam books and young college going boys openly declare they fantasise about her.

Other firangis were not desi looking like her. Katrina is fair skinned yet her looks are desi. People can both relate to her as well as look up to her.

She's also lucky that instead of criticising her people actually like her accented style of speaking and find her broken Hindi adorable! She spoke one sentence in Bihar during Raajneeti promotions, "Patna ka haal ba" and the crowds went bonkers. Firangi mem trying to be one of them must seem exhilarating?

Her films like Namaste London and SIK have gone a long way in establishing her as one of us. So she's different from other firangis who tried here. She has gotten good opportunities. Yeah she's liked. She was promoted aggressively in media from 2005. Quickly replaced Ash in all hot lists and many ads. Maybe relationship with Salman still adds to her aura. As does relationship with another high profile young gun Ranbir.

I don't know...she's this distant gori mem that makes people curious. She's expressionless but people like her face and call her cute. She's able to look innocent even in sexy item numbers. Maybe this curious mix of qualities endears people to her.

Other firangis never got opportunities like Kat, never such attention and publicity, never the patronage from high profile men, neither had partly desi looks like her, nor got tailor made roles, or tried to cash on their broken Hindi as an asset.
Salman did get her unprecedented publicity and even made media compare her to Ash. Though Kat's complexion, dances and body plus Barbie image go a long way in giving her edge over other girls who are not as fair, tall or voluptuous as she is.

In some ways yes she is the first who is also desi partly.

Some white skin ones were there but they had nothing desi about them. Golden or brown hair, blue eyes and no curvy body. Katrina is white skinned but relatable because she is not total firangi either. They see Indianness in her.

Katrina is very own desi gori mem for public. Her accent is liked too. She's mysterious whereas others are familiar types.

Katrina remains very popular because:

1. She is VERY pretty

2. Has a SUPERHOT body

3. She is a good dancer and her item songs are a rage

4. She is a decent actress. Yes, she is blankfaced most of the time, but then again she has IMMENSE screen presence and isnt unbearable onscreen like Sonam(Whom I ADORE unfortunately)

5. She has managed to steal the nation's heart-throb RK, who is considered to be the next big thing after the khans and is desired by many.

6. The fact that she isnt on any social media and doesnt talk about her private life actually helps to her cause. It helps her maintain this unattainable and mysterious aura about herself.

7. She is an excellent diplomat! Everyone else can go around making snark statements about one another but you will NEVER hear her say anything bad about anyone. This just goes to show how extremely clever and tactful she really is.

I personally like Katrina because I can relate to her...I am a desi woman in U.S.A, working against the odds in a foreign land...but at least I know the language. Her success is an inspiration to me.
