Last month, in HT Cafe, when Deepika Padukone spoke about how she underwent anxiety issues and depression, several people hailed it a bold step. Since then, the actor has been getting letters of support from fans and NGOs. Even the World Health Organisation (WHO) has appreciated her effort to talk about mental illness.
A source close to Deepika says, "While many of them were surprised at such a revelation, people praised the courage she displayed. Deepika's phone has been ringing non-stop ever since. On the one hand, while her extended family, friends, and friends of friends reached out to her, on the other, several doctors, NGOs and even individuals have also been trying to get in touch with her to offer support for the cause she has undertaken."
Deepika is working on an initiative that will create awareness about anxiety and
depression as a cause and the plan for the same is underway. "Deepika has been meeting doctors who have been working on the initiative. She has also asked her team to gather the requests that have come in. In due course of time, they will leaf through them and work a way out to join hands with whoever can help spread awareness about the cause," says the source, adding, "Deepika also received several calls and messages from people within the industry in appreciation of her move, and a lot of them have offered to help."
