Not directly related to topic but I see a lot of debate over Freedom of Speech, and how it goes against our Fundamental Right to put any sort of curb on freedom of speech and expression even if it means hurling abuses on others. I think we commonly take Fundamental Rights to be "absolute", when they are in fact "relative" and have "reasonable restrictions" placed upon them. Reasonable restriction in case of Freedom of Speech includes restrictions under the head of decency and morality and defamation among others. One has freedom to exercise his fundamental right and freedom only until it doesnt infringe upon the fundamental rights of others. Now I am not necessarily saying that AIB was indecent/immoral or defamatory. That is a subjective perspective and frankly I dont give that much importance to a stupid roast. But I think it needed to be cleared that Fundamental Rights are not absolute and unlimited, and you can not get away with anything in name of freedom of speech. Again not talking about AIB in particular but in a general sense.

Once again we are all running in circles here.

Here is the bottom line. It was a roast. It was supposed to be this way. It was a first one ever in India, and very clearly some people weren't ready for it. But most people for whatever reason are choosing not to accept or even acknowledge what a roast is. Whether it's the shock of it, or just fear of change and becoming too westernized, or fear of losing their grip on what is the standard of Indian culture, I don't know. That is a whole new can of worms that probably shouldn't be opened. Oops.

Freedom of speech and expression should never be compromised. The fact that government officials and law makers are getting involved in this is down right embarrassing for the largest democracy in the world. There is no other way to put this.

But overall it's been a fun and lively debate. Thanks everyone.

Freedom of expression is not absolute.

All rights have reasonable restrictions.

It's not some shock.

People have right to complain if they found it offensive.

The government is examining the matter. That's perfectly fine.

The government can be judged only on basis of its final decision.

All changes are not good or bad. Everyone has right to choose which change is acceptable to them and which one is not.

Yes it was a good debate and offered quite a lot of food for thought.

trust someone criticizing their own country to be accused of a 'syndrome'.

Yes, we lick white people's feet for a living. Got a problem?

Same way why you gotta problem with some people in India and if they complained?

The same "Got a problem?", applies to you too.

Who is slamming a country? Just because we don't agree with the redundant laws which btw the latest internal studies of Law Ministry highlighted doesn't mean it's a vendata against India as a country?
We are just amused that this matter should even be investigated considering how the state Govt had no statement on a child thrown out and beaten up by an eatery recently.

India for now appears to be the only country where the CM is commenting on a roast .

You read all posts here.

If you still think nobody generalised an entire country and slammed it then your perception because everything is there to see.

CM only commented. And that he has every right and authority to. He hasn't taken any action yet. So what's the fuss for?

Lol ...i see people have swapped seats .

Same people who were criticizing india/ indians having colonial mentality etc etc as they didn't agree with the post at that time are today getting offended just because someone else is not agreeing with indian laws and politicians 😆😆 I have seen biggest hypocrites on this forum that too openly .

OT: haven't watched it so can't say anything.

Karan Johar and All india bhenchods are a bunch of losers. Their youtube show is about how untalented they are that they have to use such stupidity.

I dont have objection to gaalis, sex or vulgarity, but it still has to be funny and in good taste.

I didn't accuse anyone of having a syndrome though did I
I guess there's some unwritten rule stating that we can't look out what is our own and see faults.
Which explains a LOT

I also got a problem with people having so much expectations from the country that has to look after 130cr people and their needs and wants but out of all those people the ones complain the most are those who have all the luxuries in the world for themselves but have nothing to offer to the same country they come from or belong to...

All they whine about is how poor and filthy it is, how people are pissing in the open...arre Bhai Aisa bolke aap samaj seva rhe ho ya poor logo ka Mazak uda rhe ho? Kyo nhi bana dete toilets unke liye? Aur agar nhi bana sakte toh STFU!

Preaching freedom of speech but when the same freedom of speech is being used on young girls on the streets by those mawali types toh feminism ka jhand a leke khade ho jayenge aur phir se INDIA aur INDIANs ko galiya denge, rapists kahenge unhi ko Jo women respect ke liye AIB jaiso se lad rhe hai👏

I never see the same lot for standing up for their country or saying a few words of appreciation like ever but always ready to bash for the smallest of issues. Lukke kahi ke😆
