So where did all the money come from? Mr. Amir khan needs to answer this first!

Keep on harping about empty theatres,You can't prove a jack by this. If they were really empty then cinema halls owner would have definitely talked about OR some major news outlets would have reported it.

How can it manipulated when all sources reported the same collection, ok it was something like Krrish3 then it was very believable. I find it very distasteful that you have to discredit the whole movie success based on hearsay rather than proof or evidence

Many of friends who saw said it was Housefull in India in many places

Since Dhoom 3 did not reach the same multiplications as PK or 3 Idiots will Aamir consider it as a personal disappointment 😆😆😆😆

Earlier films were judged strictly. Trending, budget, gross in each territory, ROI etc was all taken into account before awarding verdicts. This is why even if some film made say, more money, was not given hit verdict easily.

First weekend or even first week is star power. Only the later run shows whether film was accepted or not and what legs it had.

  • Box Office: Aamir Khan's multiplier theory
  • By Suleman Mobhani
The Aamir Khan starrer Dhoom 3 that released towards the end of 2013 generated massive collections at the box-office, breaking multiple records. While we at Bollywood Hungama take a look at how each film fares at the box-office in comparison to the previous releases, Aamir Khan threw open yet another comparative metric.

According to Aamir Khan, "To measure a film's success, you need to see the weekend figures and compare it with the total collection. Like 3 Idiots did Rs. 40 crores on the weekend and the total business was Rs. 202 crores, so the weekend multiplied by 5, is the behavior of the film which is very good. That shows people have gone again and again to see the film. Jo film teen din mein 100 crore karein aur total mein 200 crore karein, then that film is not good."

In this report while comparing the quality of movies, we introduce a Metric - Weekend to Lifetime Multiple for the 100 crore club. According to this comparison, a higher multiple indicates strong content and therefore longevity at cinemas, which in turn signifies footfalls being attracted in subsequent weeks.

From this analysis, the newer release like Aamir Khan's PK that has been doing brisk business at the box-office comes in at number 2 in this list out beating previous releases like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Krrish 3, Barfi and others.

Rank Movie Name Opening Weekend (Cr.) Lifetime (Cr.) Weekend to Lifetime Multiple
1 3 Idiots 40.65 202.47 4.98
2 P.K. 95.41 338.1 3.54

16 The Dirty Picture 32.70 80.00 2.45

So what are your views on Aamir Khan's proposed new metric? Do let us know.

I just fail to understand why these so called stats guys forget the Inflation. I have watched a movie for 5 Rs and now I watch it for $17 (800 Rs.).
If u adjust Sholay or some any of the older superhits, Sholay may be close to 1000 Crs.. with as many as 10% of single screens that recent biggies get.

Successful films to me r "Liked by masses, BO hits, dont offend religious sentiments"
