Priyanka in Mary Kom - Overrated?

I recently saw this movie and I honestly feel like her performance was quite overrated. I am not a Priyanka hater or anything - I have liked her acting in the past in many movies. However, in Mary Kom I just couldn't connect with her performance. She did everything correctly, and there was nothing "wrong" with her performance...but at the same time I still feel that something was missing and that...something was just not there!!

I really feel that every other performance last year was so much better...whether it was Kangana in Queen or Rani in Mardaani - their performances were more strong.

Actually, I agree with you for once. When I first saw the trailer, those were my instant reactions - she's overdone herself. But at that time I was just like I won't judge too harshly from a simple trailer.

No, She was the saving grace of the movie.

I haven't watched Mary Kom so I can't comment and perhaps this is slightly off-topic, but when I finally watched Barfi...for the life of me I couldn't understand why there was so much hue and cry by her (and for her) about awards and her performance. She was highly overrated in that role and the movie seemed solely carried by Ranbir, and then Ileana perhaps. Priyanka honestly came across like a rote 'pity' character inserted for plot purposes and by that I don't mean to sound moronic, but she brought very little to the character that was out of the box (maybe you can't within the scope provided) but it certainly didn't seem to deserve so much of the conversation that happened around it. I think in general, Priyanka tries to build her brand and sell a lot of her movies/work/persona on the 'I take risks and do unconventional things' vibe but the problem is that she hasn't really broken the roof she's hit as an actress with something very path-breaking. Everyone knows she can act and that's great...but I have never been amazed by her acting prowess. It may be because her scripts have generally been conventional/limiting and never really give her the chance to amaze.
