Post the huge success of RAAZ 3 in 2012, Bipasha Basu seems to have been on a mission to prove herself as the queen of the horror genre. She tried to carry this image on with AATMA and CREATURE. It is a different matter though that both of these films failed to do well at the box office.
Bipasha now has her hands on a film called ALONE.
ALONE doesn't carry hype because of Bipasha alone, but other reasons as well. The film marks the film debut of Karan Singh Grover who has appeared in many TV shows (Including QUBOOL HAI). Also, the pairing of Bipasha-Karan has created a lot of news as they are said to be romantically linked in real life as well. Also, ALONE is directed by Bushan Patel who earlier directed successful films such as RAGINI MMS 2 1920:EVIL RETURNS. Also, it has been said that ALONE is a remake of a 2007 Thai film which was also named ALONE.
ALONE's trailer has also been well-received by the audience.
Having said all of the above, however, the chances of ALONE working at the box office look bleak. Bipasha's last two horror films haven't worked at the box office. Furthermore, the industry has been bleeding, as with the exception of PK, one film after another has come only to fail to make a mark at the box office. With KILL DILL, THE SHAUKEENS, HAPPY ENDING, ACTION JACKSON, and TEVAR (many big stars were in many of these films) failing at the box office, there is no way that a film (ALONE) with relatively smaller stars who have less capability of pulling in the audience will work at the box office!
Opening-wise, ALONE will take a better opening than Bipasha's last film CREATURE, as ALONE seems to have generated more hype (including YouTube where ALONE's trailer has gathered more attention and appreciation with the audience). ALONE will open better at mass-dominated areas than big cities, as is usually the case for films that have horror and sex as these type films hold more appeal for the masses.
The WOM (Word of Mouth) for ALONE will likely be negative amongst the higher class/city audience, as this type of audience usually rejects these type of films with horror/sex. Audience in smaller centres/mass dominated areas may like the film, but it won't bring any benefit to the box office collections as these areas contribute a smaller amount to collections anyway.
ALONE will not show much growth in collections over the opening weekend as family audiences will stay away from the film due to the sexual content in the film and Saturday will see a drop in collections as that usually happens with massy films. Weekdays will see a big drop in collections in multiplexes/cities and even though single screens/mass centres may see steady collections, the damage will be done as steady collections from these single screens/mass centres won't be enough and Akshay Kumar's BABY will release next week to further dent the box office run of ALONE.
My Box Office Predictions for ALONE:
Opening Day: 4 crores net
Opening Weekend: 12 crores net
Lifetime Collections: 20 crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Flop
Overall, with the lack of audience coming to watch this film, ALONE will indeed be very lonely at the box office!
