Rajun Hirani is a big factor. He delivered a 70 crore grosser with Sanjay Dutt back in 2006 when - until that period - only one movie had crossed 70 crores (Gadar). He delivered a Super Hit movie in 2003 - almost challenging KMG and surpassing Baghban and KHNH that year.

It's not even that Aamir delivered a BB with a 1st time director, unknown actress, and nobody else in terms of face value than Salman (in Kick). Or how about Jai Ho - a movie that had Salman and only Salman driving it? A budget of around 20 crores + a flop director + a pathetic actress + a great actor in Tabu but ultimately not really a marketable proposition.

I won't underestimate Aamir. How can you? But it's really difficult to undermine what Salman accomplishes with unknown faces and people and half the credibility/pedigree of Aamir Khan.

On the opening, BOI is right, no? 3I was a record opener. Ghajini was. D3 was. But PK wasn't. In fact, it was lesser than a movie released in pre-Eid.

Aamir Khan has a huge following and is the most trusted brand in Bollywood for a reason. His movies aren't like Salman's movies. Yet, Salman's following is almost perplexing. His movies offer nothing but lousy entertainment. Kick is nothing compared to PK. Jai Ho was more like a B-grade movie...

Think it's fair to say that BOI is right here. Last year, in 2009, or 2008, Aamir was the star of the year. Generally, BOI considers the opening and the hysteria individual stars create. PK had the biggest director in Bollywood today; Kick had nobody apart from Salman.
