Arbaaz Khan And Sonam Kapoor's DKD A Remake Of R.S.V.P.? The Real Truth

Arbaaz Khan is flabbergasted. Ever since the promo of his third production Dolly Ki Doli went online (and fetched some very good response for itself), some mischief mongers started spreading the rumor that the film is a copy of Punjabi film R.S.V.P. [Ronde Sare Vyah Picho]. As has turned out though, the script of Sonam Kapoor starrer was registered almost three years ago (in January 2012) whereas the Neeru Bajwa starrer film was released in October 2013.

"The only similarity between the two films is that the leading lady dupes her groom, and that's about it. Beyond that there is absolutely nothing similar between the two films," informs our source, "As a matter of fact, even though the writer of R.S.V.P., Ved Prakash, felt initially that Dolly Ki Doli has been flicked from the work that he had put together, he was pretty content after being made aware of the core of the Arbaaz Khan production."

In R.S.V.P., Neeru Bajwa does dupe her groom (Harish Verma) but has a gradual change of heart when latter hunts for her and brings her back into the family. On the other hand in Dolly Ki Doli, Sonam Kapoor is shown as a serial con girl who takes Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma and Pulkit Samrat for a royal ride.

"I don't know where this is coming from, especially after Ved Prakash met me and I explained how ours was a completely new and original script while being registered way back in January 2012," fires away Arbaaz, "There is no room for speculation here. Just because the leading lady is a con artist doesn't make two films just the same. Ved too seemed to have agreed to the details I shared with him. He understands there is nothing similar between the two films."

When contacted, Ved Prakash too refuted all the speculations. He said, "I met Arbaaz bhai and he assured me that there were no similarities between the two films. He even showed me the proof of beginning work on his film way back in 2012. I was content with the evidence provided by him and was content Dolly Ki Doli was not a remake of R.S.V.P.," says Ved.

Ditching the ghagra-choli!

"Considering that she did many item songs wearing the ghagra choli combination she was quite sure that she would skip wearing something similar in this item number," informs Rick Roy. The costume designer put on his thinking hat and came up with 10 sketches featuring different outfits that could go well on Malaika for the song.

"Being a situational song Malaika was suppose to wear only one costume throughout. Therefore out of 10, we zeroed in on the costume that she's seen wearing in the number," mentions Rick, who crafted a criss-cross blouse and teamed it up with an asymmetrical dhoti skirt.

Giving the regular maang tika' a twist!

With the costume of the actress getting a striking twist, it was obvious to make the jewellery even more interesting. "Thus we enhanced the regular maang tika with a lot of thin chains that run through her hair," elaborates Rick. Though it's a shaadi number, the designer says that they didn't want the bling quotient to be too high. For the same, Malaika was given very minimal jewellery. "In terms of her accessories you can see that we concentrated majorly on her hands. We gave her a lot of bangles to wear. And that was it!" adds Rick.

Not many know that the main heroine Sonam Kapoor of the film Dolly Ki Doli too will be making an appearance in Malaika's item number Fashion Khatam. The actress was quite impressed by item girl' Malaika's wardrobe in the song. Says Rick, "Sonam was quite excited to see Malaika in that avatar. She loved her wardrobe and she conveyed her message to Malla (Malaika)."

Director Abhishek Dogra says Sonam Kapoor balances meaningful cinema and commercial movies well

Filmmaker Abhishek Dogra says he was confident that Sonam Kapoor could pull off Dolly Ki Doli well because she deftly balances meaningful cinema and commercial movies.

"Sonam has got two sides to her. One is the fashionista and urban image. But at the same time she is doing films like Raanjhanaa and Mausam. I was quite convinced that she could carry anything on her shoulder," said Abhishek.

"All the films that she has done - from Aisha to Mausam to Raanjhanaa - all have been of different variations and I was sure she would be able to pull off Dolly Ki Doli as well. The film needed that earthiness, which I did get," he added.

On being asked if Sonam Kapoor was his first choice for the film, Abhishek said "We always had a wish list. All top actresses were on my wish list, but seeing parameters - date, time, and combination of the actors, Sonam fit the bill. We have got great response for the trailer."

When the film comes out, he feels the audience would get to see interesting elements in the movie.

"It's a fun ride. Lots of interesting characters you would get to see in the film. It has a great story line, a lot of entertainment, a lot of good songs. It's like a con-some ride where this girl likes to dupe men for some reasons that you will come to know when you watch the film," he said.

Set for a January 23 release, Dolly Ki Dolly, also features Rajkumar Rao. [x]
