The promo of Dolly Ki Doli has been unveiled and by the look of things, Sonam Kapoor is pretty much set for delivering a good entertainer here. For starters, what is all important is the impression that a film makes in the very first stage of being presented to the audience. In that aspect, Dolly Ki Doli has played bang on, what with quite a few laughs along with interesting twists and turns being promised in this fun affair. Moreover, the promo hasn't tried to go around in circles with the core theme of the film and has instead come straight to the point by well establishing Sonam as the con girl.
All of this means that first time director Abhishek Dogra has set the stage for audience to feast on the fun element that Dolly Ki Doli promises.
This brings one to the multi-crore question - Will Dolly Ki Doli manage to surpass last release of Sonam Kapoor, Khoobsurat?
Well, if one goes by the couple of minutes of the footage that has been unveiled so far as well as the interesting beginning that the campaign took with some innovative poster designs, the answer is - 'Yes'!
On its release, Khoobsurat had managed lifetime collections of over 30 crore just in India. This, when its promo wasn't as impressive as Dolly Ki Doli and there was competition from a similar romcom genre Daawat-E-Ishq. Yet, on the basis of content being put together that was appreciated well by good solid word of mouth from the audience, the film hung on well for three weeks.
Now Dolly Ki Doli is enjoying a much greater buzz and with Rajkummar Rao, Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma bringing on further credibility, there is a good enough platform that has been set. Moreover, what is seemingly working for the film is its good reach for the target audience, what with something in place for multiplexes as well as single screen audiences, something that is going to help it in a long run.
The film is arriving alongside Baby on 23rd January but the competition would be negated by the additional Republic Day holiday that it would enjoy. Now that's a good decision taken by producer Arbaaz Khan and rest assured, if the content indeed turns out to be as good as the promo, not just the 30 crore lifetime total of Khoobsurat get easily eclipsed, Dolly Ki Doli could even dream bigger for collections in excess of 40 crore.
