Her pretty and unique visage makes her look appealing but in the heart of her heart, Deepika Padukone is a quiet and (in her own words) a not-so-interesting girl.
This time she was the guest on Niranjan Iyer's celebrity chat show. Yet, despite her boring self, she managed to pull off a great conversation. Well, at least we think so.
The talk began with Deepika opening about how hard days were for her when she was trying to set a career in a new city and the failures she had to put up with. She also spoke about how she eventually started accepting herself all because of the ups and downs she had to go through. About the things that she doesn't like about herself, she said:
"I wish I could be more chatty because when I meet new people, I take time to open up with them."
Niranjan quizzed her how, during the initial phase of her career, she was not outspoken about her relationships yet there was not anything hidden from her side. And now, it seems that she is consciously trying to keep that aspect of her life away from the world.
To this Deepika said, "I just wanted to be myself during those days. It (the relationship) was something that I was proud of. It was the reality whether I like it or not. But I feel that the entire focus started moving away from my work. I wondered whether I really did the right thing (by revealing about my personal life so much)? Overnight I felt like I have lost everything. Those experiences have made me the person I am today."
For her, the her work is her sole support system in Mumbai. "I keep myself so busy workwise that I don't feel lonely. I have realized it is easier for the actors who have been brought up here have many things to do in the city. I don't want to sound like a loner. But it has been my effort," she revealed
Deepika's equation with Ranbir Kapoor has been a point of interest when she was dating him and even when she is not. How she manages to be friends with Ranbir (and do films with him) was Niranjan's next question.
"It is not something that I would like to keep revisiting again and again. Honestly, there has been absolutely no thought about it (in my mind). I am really happy that we have a beautiful equation and we make beautiful movies together. We are not in touch every single day. Somewhere we will be special to each other because whatever has been said and done was when we were very nave. We respect each other for what we had shared once."
Niranjan then spoke how she and Sonam Kapoor shared a good rapport earlier but soon things took a turn and there was news of a tiff going on between the two contemporaries. Deepika shared her thoughts on the matter to come clear on the rumours. She said, "I would like to believe that we are in a time when we are happy to appreciate each others' work, support each other and stand by each other when needed. Being cordial is the most simple and basic thing. From my end there is nothing that has gone wrong. So it does surprise me when I hear what one has said about me in a negative sense. There is no amount of negativity ill feelings on my part. But on a serious note, if someone comes to me and tell negative things, that is not something I am going to take seriously."
She also dispelled about any issue going on between her and Sonam by saying, "My equation with Sonam is very pure and clear. I like her for her candidness. So most of the time, I don't even take to heart whatever she says. I give her that much benefit of doubt. She still sends me Diwali gifts. Like I said, if someone had an issue with me, they would come and tell me."
The talk then moved on to get her views on the TOI controversy that snowballed into a big issue.
"That point I was expressing what I strongly felt about. I still stand by what I said. I said whatever I had to say in the article I wrote. For me it is a closed chapter," concluded Deepika.
