I did not mean India is generally intolerant... while i do see intolerance increasing these days I am still proud that it is not some dictator state ... and meant the amount of indignation people had about the movie showing army in a bad light... I did not know why it should be and I was questioning that intolerance... while no one explicitly said that army is ipous every one seemed to be indignant that they live a hard life and they are shown in a bad light... which is why I said why is it that army cannot be questioned? and of course I do read newspapers... and I definitely know that the space given to army atrocities is very less... and there have been very few meaningful debates about AFSPA and even lesser efforts to really do something about the draconian measures that are part of AFSPA.. so please dont think that I am not reading papaers and sayign that army is never questioned... army atrocities are definitely not given muh air time ... and most people who live away from army interference react very strongly when people make any statements which are not complimentary of the army... Once again I was only asking about the indignation on this thread.. in the real world I dont think this has become a big issue... anyway I wills top with this... I think many people have now even started to think I am some advocate of terrorism... I just feel state gets away with many crimes to humanity and I expect better from the state than from the terrorists... and I would like to see us taking a good introspection and do something to better our humanitarian record...

I have rarely read reports except on the scams... other reports are buries inside and not tom tommed... look at irom sharmila 14 years and I doubt how many people even know what prompted her to start the fast... what excuse do we ahve for army behaving that way?

Ha! It means you do not watch news at all!

I need to show you mainstream media?😲

News is there on country's most well known news channels like NDTV and CNN-IBN!

Shows like Haqeeqat and Kagaar were on national networks like Doordarshan and Star Plus! Heck! They even got awards for episodes on crimes by army!

One has to be either selective in attention or living under a rock if one thinks mainstream media never criticised army!

Irom Sharmila is lionised by NDTV and CNN-IBN!

AFSPA is necessary. It is debatable but they need to be given liberty to act promptly.

Sitting here it is easy to discuss. Easily we send bangles to army when attacks happen. But we want them tied from taking action!

Punjab was also under AFSPA once but now it is stable. If others stabilise then AFSPA wouldn't be needed. Also ask why such laws were made in first place! What compelled them to take this step?

I think we will just have to agree to disagree about AFSPA.. I think government and state machinery should be able to find a better solution... it is easy to say AFSPA is required as long as you are not living under it...

I have yet to see the film. But Iam glad that at least some one attempted to show the truth, when Vishal and his team was here some one threw a Kangiri at Irrfan Khan, Kashmiris are known for their hospitality and no Kashmiri would ever do that but DAT guy must have been so frustrated because people come here make films but never showed both sides of the story. Iam a Kashmiri and I was born 89 I have grown up in encounters cross firings and harrasments fear and guns. Yes I agree that wat happens with Kashmiri pandits was totally unfair. But wat happened with us is far more painful. When pandits left, the militants never treated us differently we were tortured and killed from both sides. When anThe army as well as the militants. What is more sad is that there are so many massacres and rapes and unmarked graves that India doesn't even acknowledge.
For any country Army is its pride and its natural for any one to get angry. But India needs to know dat Kashmir is a conflicted state and there is a reason y there is so much anger and trauma in Kashmiri people.

FYI, I am a Sikh and my parents lived in Punjab during 1984 times. I bloody well know what insurgency and state conflicts are like. The AFSPA and National Security Acts had their roots in Punjab insurgency only. Yes it was a time of crisis and stability came only in mid 90s but when people are out of control then state needs to take a strict stand as well.

State has no interest in meddling all the time. Otherwise AFSPA would not be lifted at all.

Yes it is debatable but so are actions of people who leave no choice except to take harsh steps as some of them are hand in gloves with militants. Few such people tarnish image of whole community.

dependence day on 14 august it is not ur state only it is not kashmiri it is jammu and kashmir

Firstly thousands of pandits were not killed. And jagmohan the then governor took all the pandits out of Kashmir and then curfew was imposed and massacres happened. Even the dead bodies were not spared. Do u know y it all started at the first place first place it was 86 87 election were rigging happened and Kashmiri Muslims protested. Having said that Iam obviously not justifying the 200 killings of KPs Intact I was a supporter of India till 2008. Kps were homeless and Kashmiri Muslims were scared to enter there own homes not knowing if a millatant or an army person will already be there. Iam sorry I shouldn't have said more painful its equally painful. But saying DAT Kashmiri's deserved to be killed like animals for no fault of their own is also unfair. And when did I say its my state only. And lol at people celebrating Pak's Independence day in 14 and 15th August there is curfew here and people are not even allowed to.move out of their houses. I as a Kashmiri has equal anger for India as well as for Pakistan. What have they done for us? Nothing. They only use the word 'Kashmir' for their cheap political stunts

@IamSherLocked: Do you reside in Kashmir ? How are things compared to past ? I have heard traveling has become more safe. If that's the case, is it more safe out there compared to how it was in the past ? Just curious and want to know from someone who actually resides there especially since I have been dying to visit Kashmir for years...
