Has anyone here seen the Hindi version? Is it as good as the original English one or does it lose its charm? I'm going with some family friends and they want to watch the Hindi one. :-I
Creature 3D opened poorly at multiplexes but did bit better at single screens of mass circuits. the film will have to show good gains at multiplexes on Saturday if it is to do anything at the box office.
Finding Fanny opened poorly everywhere though picked up at metro multiplexes in the evening but will need big Saturday growth for a decent weekend.
The other release of the week Khotta Sikka was a total washout with disastrous collections wherever released.
Mary Kom grossed around 39.50 crore nett in its first week but did not really sustain that well on the weekdays and the eighth day has seen a further drop.
Watching Finding Fanny is like opening a book and discovering a treasure trove of characters whom you connect with on a personal level. You get so involved with the story that you explore each character with all their chinks and vulnerabilities and are totally engrossed by beautiful yet simplistic storytelling.
Kudos to Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor for choosing to do such an unconventional film at the peak of their careers, and to Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Kapur for bringing out the essence of the story with such lan.
When a film has more than just one protagonist, it is important to have the right actors in your ensemble cast. It's like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle and the film does this perfectly. Every actor suits their character perfectly, making this film a wholesome and heartwarming experience to watch. Most importantly, this film definitely entertains.
Of all human emotions, pain has the ability to change a person completely. There's the pain of loneliness, lost love, betrayal, resentment or the pain an artist feels when he has no inspiration. Finding Fanny showcases the pain each character feels deep down in their hearts.
The story starts with Angie (Deepika Padukone) narrating an introduction about her town and the people who live there. Angie is the daughter-in-law of Madame Rosalyn (Dimple Kapadia), two lovely widows living in the Goan village of Pokolim, a place that's fallen off the map. Time quietly passes Pokolim by, until its postmaster Ferdie (Naseeruddin Shah) has his proposal to Stefanie Fernandes returned, unopened after 46 years.
Angie is determined to help the devastated Ferdie find answers. She enlists the rusting Impala of Ruben-like painter Don Pedro (Pankaj Kapur), who lusts after amply endowed Rosie, and the group is driven by Angie's snarling ex, Savio (Arjun Kapoor).
There are many scenes that make you laugh and they stay with you well after the credits roll. There are many memorable sequences too. For instance, the one when the trip comes to a halt when the car runs out of petrol, and the emotional outbursts of each character. There are scenes that start by bringing a tear to your eyes and end with laughter on your lips, like the one where Ferdie finally meets Fanny.
Homi Adajania, who started his directorial career with 2006's offbeat film Being Cyrus and also made the commercial 2012 film Cocktail, marks a confident third outing with Finding Fanny. He has done his homework with the script and character sketches. The flow of the storyline is precise and the pace is perfect. Also, it is obvious that the writer knows how to handle delicate scenes beautifully. With Finding Fanny, Adajania introduces European-style filmmaking, which is a true auteur style, to Hindi cinema. On the whole, the film is a seamless mix of emotions and many scenes leave you awestruck.
Editing by Sreekar Prasad is firm and leaves no loose ends, with a runtime of 1 hour, 46 minutes. Cinematography by Anil Mehta is another asset. The locations are brilliantly captured and portray Goa's scenic beauty and rustic locations very well. Mehta's shot-taking is simple and to the point. The dialogue is tight and includes some heart-wrenching lines. From locations to costumes, the entire look of the film is appropriate. The background score and music is another asset and they blend with the narrative beautifully.
Performance-wise, there is a certain charm that each character possesses, which is highlighted due to the conviction of the five protagonists. Deepika Padukone plays her role with a bare, simplistic magnetism which translates beautifully to the big screen. Arjun Kapoor carefully plays with the undertone of his character. His performance is a perfect blend of confidence and subtlety. Naseeruddin Shah exudes the gullibility and innocence of his part exceptionally well. From his droopy body language to his dialect and expressions, he is a delight to watch. Dimple Kapadia is outstanding. Pankaj Kapur gets into the skin of his character and is undoubtedly a master of his craft. Ranveer Singh, in a special appearance, makes his presence felt. Anand Tiwari and Anjali Patil play their respective parts well.
Verdict: A must-watch for cinema-lovers!
Film has collected 2.80 cr nett on day which was poor. Film will jump over weekend as reviews are positive but film needs miracle from here onwards in order to save the day box office.
