Correction:

Modern Hinduism is the only surviving major religion that has made mythos the focal point.

There are many philosophical and scientific aspects of Hinduism prominent during Vedic times that have been sidelined with the growth of "bhakti" marga in the past few centuries. There were ancient religions that had mythos as the focal point. That is why you see Christianity folding in symbolic rituals like Eostre into itself to absorb pagan populations more easily. There are still aboriginal and tribal religions that have their own mythos, spirituality, idols/rituals etc. It is just that most of us don't know enough about these belief systems. The modern world dismisses a lot as hocus pocus or witchcraft simply because they do not understand the mythos things are derived from. A Native American ritual to "appease the Gods" is no different in spirituality and meaning than similar Hindu rituals.

Everyone has a right to question belief and ask questions. You do not have to be a jerk about it. RGV was a jerk about it.Saying mein aisa hoon does not cut it.

Objection - Shouldn't it be the prerogative of a follower to select his form of worship. Be it Bhakti, Vedic or Idol worshiping. The point is religion is abstract and personal. Nothing still gives away the right to RGV to mock one particular form of worshiping just because it doesn't sit well with his belief system.

Where am I denying anyone the prerogative to make their choice? Where have I said that people don't have a right to Bhakti? Where have I said any choice is wrong? Where have I said that RGV was right?

I do not understand your objection at all.

I don't think a single person say that RGV is wrong for asking the questions...Its the way he phrased the questions...the platform that he used for these questions...is what people are objecting to...not that he was curious...There is a big difference between the two...Did u read that RTH also asked certain questions about Islam on this thread...but there was not even a hint of disrespect in those questions...just plain curiosity...on the other hand RGV tried to mock the Hindu Gods...Hinduism propagates tolerance and encourages questions but on the other hand it also teaches us not to take shit from anyone...
