After posting upsetting messages for his fellow filmmakers, Ram Gopal Varma took it too far this time around. On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, which was celebrated on Friday, the director posted offensive messages about Lord Ganesha on his Twitter handle.
His first tweet read, "What did Ganesha do that his brother Kumara dint do so that only Ganesha became god? Is it becos Kumara dint get head cut off like Ganesha?"
He then asked his fans and other devotees about the significance of the day and tweeted, "Can someone tell me if today is the day Ganesha was originally born or is it the day his dad cut his head off?"
Taking his previous tweets to the next level, the "Satya" director asked whether Lord Ganesha eats with his hands or his trunk. And if that was not enough, he even asked the devotees for a list of obstacles that Ganesha removed over the years for them.
"I would really love to know from Lord Ganesha's devotees a list of what obstacles he removed in all the years they prayed to him," read his tweet.
While the entire nation is chanting "Ganpati Bappa Morya", Varma asks how can a god who couldn't save his own head, will save other.
His tweet read, "I have an innocent question...can someone please tell me how a Lord who couldn't save his own head will save others heads?"
According to the mythology, Lord Ganesha's mother Parvati instructed him to guard a door when she went for a bath and told him not to allow anyone inside. But when Lord Shiva came, Ganesha refused to allow him inside. In his fury Shiva severed Ganesha's head.
To this, Varma asks, "Can someone explain how someone can cut off a child's head who was just trying to protect his mother's modesty? Am sure devotees know better."
Here are his other tweets:
"Does Lord Ganesha eat much more than other Gods? My doubt is becos all the other Gods are either trim or muscular."
"Did Lord Ganesha have a paunch in his childhood too or did it develop in the recovery time of the elephant head operation?"
"Happy Ganesh chaturdhi. .may this day 29th aug bring prosperity and happiness to everybody so that there will be no problems from 30th aug."
He further explained his tweets by saying that his tweets are coming from both his ignorance and innocence on the matter.
"All concerned pls undrstand tht my questions nd observations on Ganesha are coming from both my innocence nd ignorance on the subject matter," he tweeted.
He later added that he would like to be educated on his queries on Lord Ganesha by esteemed experts on the matter and also mentioned that his movies are not doing well because of his attitude towards gods.
His last tweet on the matter read, "All tweets I put on Ganesha were in my usual manner but unintended by me to hurt anyone's sentiments...but if they did I sincerely apologize."
Director Kunal Kohli found Varma's tweet upsetting and tweeted, "Greatest thing about being Indian is we partake in each other's festivals not ridicule them like you. Shame on you #RamGopalVerma."
