What is net collection gross collection and distributor share in bollywood films?

Gross collection is Total number of tickets sold multiplied by the ticket rates..
Net collection is when the Entertainment Tax is deducted from the gross..
Distributor's share is when the the rent and profit of the multiplex owners is deducted from the net collections..

This can be explained with an example
GROSS 100,00,00,000 (Rs 100 cr) 1.25 crore tickets sold at an average price of Rs 80 per ticket.
NETT 60,00,00,000 (Rs 60 cr) On an average its 40% across India, so deduct 40 crores
SHARE Rs 30-35 crore From the nett, various theatre owners deduct their cut (as rent) and forward balance to distributor

**Gross= Share+ Ententainment Tax+ Theatre rentals**

Business Economics of Akshay Kumar's Holiday
Posted in :Bollywood,Box Office
|
June 10th, 2014.
In today's times, more than the investors and trade, movie-goers are curious to know about the business
economics of big films. How much does Akshay Kumar's Holiday need to collect to be a Hit? How much does
it need to recover costs? For how much were the satellite rights sold for? What about the music rights? "
We've been literally bombarded with these questions.
Detailed info below
Total investment:Reliance invested around 75-80 crore on Holiday. (A reliable source has confirmed that the
investment is 75 crore+ and not as high as 90 crore - a figure that has been quoted on various websites)
Additionally, around 15 crore was spent on marketing.

Recovery
Satellite Rights: 39 crore
Music rights: 5.67 crore (Zee Music)
Other rights (home video etc): 2 crore
India Distributors share: 23 crore (4 days)
Overseas share: 5 crore (4 days)
Totalrecovery for Reliance: 74.67 crore
So in short, Reliance has already recovered a major chunk of its investment on Holiday in less than 4 days. The
film could go on to be a much bigger grosser, both in the domestic and overseas markets.
Individual distributors have paid very high prices for Holiday. Tax exemptions would have given the film a huge
boost, but given the positive word-of-mouth and Monday business (less than 50% drop), all its investors should
recover their investment in the long run.
