We have been dissing choices of certain actresses like Rani (dil bole haddippa, aiyya, mardaani etc) and Vidya (Ghanchakkar, bobby jasoos etc) as these were bad scripts/movies, but how about the fact that these were characters that were totally new for the actresses. Rani had never done and would never do what she has done in Aiyya (pathetic though,) but I guess she enjoyed playing a new role without worrying about box office.
We appreciate actresses when they do different roles in art cinema but we neglect that roles may be different in full commercial movies as well. So do you think these girls have been choosing roles over scripts?

I agree with TM completely on this, audience always want to see new roles and characters be it from both male and female actors , and it will be readily accepted if its done by a male while as usual females are not that lucky ... there are many pathetic male actors movies which went to break records...
I loved ghanchakkar actually, yes vidya's role was a bit loud but hello that went tonned down while the movie was progressing. Apart ending it was a fab movie... ending was not handled well i mean i am not diasspointed with everyone dropping dead 😆 but ending was a bit screwed up for sure.

I am going to see Mardani more for story than for Rani, not at all her fan, so lets see

Sure this kind of roles are completely new to them, where they dont have to romance the lead and stay as a flowerpot alone, and esp when it comes to females trying new roles lets not forget a simple fact that the story if has loopholes and bad presentation will be highlighted for many reasons as there is no one to take off shirt and show body or no one doing much of item numbers and random romances in movie to be sold

I actually love movies like Mardaani, even Gulab Gang because they give a chance for out of the box strong female roles. These movies are necessary regardless of box office.
Ganchakkar and SKSE OTOH were just plain terrible. Even Vidya couldn't save them. Not everyone can do comedy, even great dramatic actors, especially great dramatic actors.

We shouldn't be dissing actor's choices if the role is unique. Even Hrithik picks different roles but in his case even the script is good. Actors like Madhuri veen picking good roles with bad scripts.
