Farhan Akhtar starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag bagged both critical acclaim and commercial success when it released last year. The National Award-winning film directed by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra was based on the life of famous sprinter Milkha Singh. While all seemed hunky dory between the filmmakers and Singh after the release, a year later, trouble seems to be brewing.
During the film's publicity, the makers had revealed that Milkha Singh had accepted a Rs 1 currency note printed in 1958 as his fee to let Mehra tell the story of the sportsperson's life. Apparently, there was also an agreement that the profits of the film would be shared, if it did well at the box office. But despite the film's roaring business, Singh hasn't received a single penny.
Now, Congress leader Charan Singh Sapra, who is a friend of the famous athlete, plans to send a legal notice to the filmmakers. Sapra says, "A commitment given to Milkha Singh was not honoured due to which I will be speaking with Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra and Viacom18 Motion Pictures regarding the same. Milkha Singh had given the rights of his story to the makers for a price of ' 1 and it was agreed that the profits would be shared with him. However, that promise was not honoured. I did send a text to Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra but he is yet to revert. I am not sure he is in the country because he hasn't replied to my message. It is only after I speak with him regarding the issue that I will decide my next step and the course of action to be taken."
