Since I hated the new age Devdas so much I will go with the former even though I haven't seen it. LOL

I see a lot of criticism on the new Devdas.

Nostalgia is a good thing, but when it means panning new talent just for the sake of its "newness", then it becomes bad.

Speaking on the merit of this scene alone, the older version looks rather comical. Note how the Suchitra stops one second before that guy says Talsonapur, what a blunder! And when Mahendra confirms to her that the body lying outside was that of Devdas, and she runs, saying "Main jaa rahi hoon", like the reasoning was even required! When you are a passionate lover and are told your lover is dying, you just run, you don't care for the world. Even the shots of her running were poor, and that is NOT because of technology.

The newer one is much more dramatic, and epic. She doesn't give a damn when people are asking where she is going or goes "Main jaa rahi hoon Devdas se milne" - that shows pure passion. It tugs your heart when she hits that gate, you don't feel anything when it happens in the former's case.

This is one film where I can proudly say the newer version outdid the older version.

Devdas 2002 just so many feels.

They are filmed so differently. SLB operatic style for Devdas is what made it special to many.

I very much enjoyed this film though. Sucker for drama. Bhansali expertly handled it by not turning it into a melodrama, any other director would have had a tough job of doing that with such a movie on such an epic scale.

Had you said the song Dola Re was red, I'd've agreed, that was the theme of the song.

But the rest of the movie was pretty normal, here are some snapshots I found when I randomly googled

I loved the cinematography of the last scene..Ash was good too..That said, Devdas is a hamfest through and through..Put me off SLB & his films forever..Now i avoid all his films like plague 😆 And no, am not prejudiced when i say this..I hope its not interpreted that way..Its just my opinion 😆

OMG this is the first time I saw the new Devdas's ending and it was so good...dramatic but good...SRK-Aish nailed it...It is really difficult to compare it with the old one because everything was so artificial back then...I mean today's dialogue delivery is more natural/...and the actress was not able to emote properly for whatever reason...So definitely I like the new one better...
