"I love hanging out with my daughter, Sara. From drinking champagne, to watching television, we can do anything together. She's very understanding and says she can do anything for me. A lot of daughters wouldn't do that. She made herself the soul of my wedding with Kareena, which a lot of young girls wouldn't do."
When asked about fears of being a father to a teen:
"There are fears of heartbreak and pregnancy. But more so only if you feel your children are irresponsible because they can hurt themselves. I was irresponsible. I couldn't be bothered coz I always felt it was someone else's job to sort me out. Nothing mattered to me, but it matters to Sara. So she'll party until 5 am at our wedding, but go to school at 7 am in a rickshaw because she wants to give her exam. You know, Sara doesn't even like spending money. When ti was time to pack up her dormitory, we could have paid someone to do it for $200, but she chose to do it herself."
On children's upbringing
"I would have spoiled her, so this has to do with the other people in my family who are like that. Her mom (Amrita Singh) has taught her that. But I also believe its her. An individual eventually comes into her own.
The Industry when asked why hedoesn't watch hindi films
"I don't watch hindi cinema coz it's nice to cut away from work. I'd hate it if i had to live, eat, breathe movies. I'd watch it to see what someone is up to, but that would be more of a research and development job. The industry is all consuming. You can't get too involved with this profession, it will destroy you. You need to be around friends"
"I'm cordial with everyone, but I'm not friends with anyone in the industry. You cannot be friends when you're basically not interested in someone's well being beyond a point. Friends are people you love and want to be successful. No one wants someone else's films to be too successful. You don't wish them ill, but you don't pray for their success either. Plus no actor is equal to another here, so it's difficult to be friends."
On Starting a Family with Kareena
"It's not a priority. Having children makes a unit complete and there are some lovely things about it. It's a life changing thing. So when you have a baby, it should be just about the baby. Right now, our life is about traveling and doing these hectic fun things. This is not the time. It will come though.
Something he needs to improve on
"I can be rude to people I don't respect coz I can't tolerate their existence. But if I respect you, even for the smallest smidgen, I'll be the best to you. This is something I feel for my chowkidaar downstairs. I love him and he loves me. He finds me to be the best behaved and most elegant person who asks him how his mother is doing. But an annoying person will see the contempt in me. And he'll hate me. So I need to work on tolerating people I don't like in a polite manner. But I also can't be bothered about what people think (laughs)
I can't help it, this is how I am. At 43, I call a spade a spade. I can proudly say that I am a good friend. I love the people I am close to. But I am not a people pleaser and I will never be. I can't stand people pleasers"
