there r tragic movies, and there r one notch higher movies then them too that leave u with even more wrenched heart and shoots directly at it. some vigorously and some in an under-current way of affecting the emotions... they r depressing movies, which wont leave your emotional system even after the screening is over.
there r quite a number of depressing films like that in hindi cinema,s timeline... plz vote for the polling options, or if u want to add another name and like to share your views about it, plz contribute in comments.

Wow what a coincidence, I just re-watched Zakhm a few weeks ago and honestly couldn't stop thinking about it after days and days of having seen it. The entire film has a very gloomy atmosphere to it which is pretty much established right from the beginning of the film, majority of the film is either set in flashback or the hospital and so that adds to it's incredibly dark aura. Add to that 2 brothers fighting over whether their mother should be cremated or buried midst of the Mumbai riots and it makes for a very depressing affair.
Sadma is also one of those films that leave a huge lump in your throat:( But it does have it's sweet happy moments:) Zakhm has few to none.

i 2nd everything u wrote about zakhm, amazingly explained.
the climax of zakhm has always made me cry literally in tears (which happens rarely with me).
the background sad version of gali may aaj chaand nikla at the backdrop of showing ajay,s mother grave, and the last scene where ajay came down into her mother (pooja bhatt) grave, people putting black cloth on the grave to cover ajay so that he can spend last minutes with her mother in her grave, ajay sitting in the grave watching the dead body of her mother, and imagining her mother (pooja bhatt) and father (naagarjuan) meeting up there in clouds hugging each other, and ajay crying with tears having a sideway smile at the same time, just choked at my heart uninhibitedly.

the very last scene after burying her mother in grave, when ajay go to the sea and threw the locket that her mother has given her in water, followed by the end credits with the mother,s lori with showing the still old photograph of his mother (pooja bhatt) hugging the little ajay (kunal khemu) always burst me in tears.

believe it or not, even during writing all the above, i am having watery eyes right now.
that much was the huge impact of zakhm.
zakhm was a true swan song of mahesh bhatt, the director, and pooja bhatt the actress. heartfelt respect for both of them.
