Make me understand the context of the movie and do explain and counter the regression shown in the movie. Would love to hear your own progressive version of this film.

I guess no one likes family movies anymore. Peple like to watch love making scenes and fake action.
Your entitled to your own opinioin. I love this movie and i hope bollywood start making these kinds of movies again.

Family movies are deeply appreciated if they reduce the sappy stuff and the kind of psychology they imbibe in the movies for the sake of making the 50s something aunties love those films.Watching love making scenes or fake action as you stated is not everyone's priority rather some sense of intelligence would've helped the plot. The kind of family they have showed in the movie is unrealistic and highly repulsive.

Poonam was shown to be putting up with her aunt's remarks about the color discrimination and all sorts of hatred fill comments. Yet she prefers to keep quiet and move on feeling disturbed within herself. She is well aware of the type of treatment she is meted out by her aunt, yet she chooses to agonize with herself. How about raising her voice for once and showing a piece of her brain to her? The film would have made a much larger impact if such scene was shown rather on focusing on the unnecessary rituals and hamming between the leads.

There were so many key topics within the movie which could have been dealt beautifully to educate the girls in conservative families.

The movie is not regressive at all!!

The topic is still relevant. 'Fair' creams are still lucrative business in India and dark skinned peope are still considered not beautiful. You just have to look at the reaction of people on this forum to actresses that do not conform to the european definition of pretty.

As for Poonam not speaking up. Many women, not only rural India but Urban India do not believe in raising their voices against inequality of women. Look at the Preity Zinta case, the first doubt was cast on Preity- noone even spoke of Wadia's actions.

The movie may have been dramatized, but the issues are still very relevant.

Yes, we all humans are still pieces of shit!!

Good for you. I henceforth wouldn't want to pop your bubble of backwardness. May Barjatya make more these kind of movies to entertain the very "educated" people unlike someone me. 😃

Whatever sails your boat. If these kind of dogmatic conditions are prevalent in it society does not mean it has to be showed in the films too with no ounce of forgiveness by whoever resorts to discriminating the fair and the brown. Whatever little could be done is with these medium such as movie and soaps. Yet we have movies such as these which like to show the extravagant weddings with inessential rituals. How about countering the present problems rather than showcasing them even more to give ecstatic pleasure to ones who practise them?

Sexist.

But to answer your question I was stupid enough to watch this feast of backwardness and then make a topic here to seek the opinion of the educated members here and somewhere like this forum. All for women rights but yet bitches we love this out dated stuff. How about that? Wonderful, no.

Unless movies have the drama angle, they will not make money as it will not appeal to us. If we cannot see right from wrong in real life, how are we ever going to appreciate it in a movie, that showcases reality.
