I would remove 3 idiots from the list and put Kai Po Che in its place, or Omkara.
Five point someone was much better than 3 idiots which touched upon a lot of things going wrong in engineering colleges and education system it wasn't just abt rote based learning system as 3 idiots showed it to be. 3 idiots is actually the weakest Hirani film in some ways
Black Friday is another wonderful adaptation of a book.
In the coming months, I am looking forward to Bombay velvet, Haider, and Detective Byomkesh bakshi, all of which are based on books and have good directors making them.
Overall, good list and interesting topic. :)

Its Amaazing...
But often Adaptations disappoint us to a very huuuge Extent

and there are many books that make a movie by itself...and never should be adapted

Beautiful Topic.. i love discussing on these topics😳😆
I am not a huge fan of books turned into movies.I tend to prefer the books because they give you a direct link to the characters' thoughts. As hard as an actor can try to portray this, facial expressions just cant give you the same feeling.(One big exception I can think of though is Alan Rickman playing Snape, that last scene in Deathly Hallows, you can see how much Snape loved Lily. ) I mean books are like a movie in ur head, leaving it to ur imagination to decide how it goes. Movies for me spoil this because it just ruins what u thought it would turn out like.
But with saying that their are some movies that are better than books. For eg The notebook though i loved the book guess the intensity in the book was missing which was truely evident in the movie.. And how to miss The godfather though i saw the movie first but on realising it was a book before went on to read the book and trust me the Movie is far more better than the book.

Sometimes its important to change the plot a bit for the movie. You cant just pick go on with the same script. For eg: 3 Idiots which is adapted from five point someone though almost the book is similar i felt the ending in the book of him being a success rather than a failure (as originally in the book) gives a better message to masses.Another one is Breaking Dawn part 2. The added battle scene made me actually like the movie (when I hated the book).

Many times in movies / TV shows (that are book inspired), they change too much. For example, in Pretty Little Liars. They changed huge character traits, hair color, appearance, and even some major plot twists. Some characters weren't introduced, and new characters were taken.

^^ I believe that's just how a director visions the character to be (in the inspiring way) and adds his/her own touch to the adaptations. Sometimes they work but mostly, they don't.

^ Well in PLL, it was a good change. The book, if compared to the TV series, is very slow, and the girls look meaner than they should, so yeah (y) good change.
