Kids today will not understand what the big deal is all about - Hindustan Motors has stopped production of the iconic Ambassador car, so what? Well, it is a big deal to us 90s kids, fellas! It was a time when Fiat and Maruti 800 were still inferior to the cool quotient of an Ambassador - and we pay tribute to the good ol' Amby by listing out 10 reasons why we are going to miss that car!
1.There was a time when VIP cars meant the stately white Ambassadors with its red light whizzing past in a row, looking so important. Over time, all we have are ox-like SUVs instead.
2.Only the Ambassador could pull off being a VIP car AND a taxi at the same time, with a simple paint job!
3.Indians love their cars, but no other car was as loved as the Ambassador. People used to decorate their ride with the prettiest curtains of all materials and colors!
4.The Ambassador was from an age when ACs inside cars was still an alien concept in India.
5.But seriously, who needed ACs when you had those cute little fans hanging inside the cars that kept you cool enough.
6.If it not were for Ambassadors, this epic scene would never have happened.
7.It was the only car ever with a long sofa up front instead of two separate seats - making it possible for 2-3 people, or more (if they're kids) to fit inside!
8.Automatic window roll-up also made an entry much later. In the days of yore, people used to develop muscles just by rolling those stubborn windows - first down, then up!
9.The shape of the Ambassador was so comfortable - interiors AND the exterior as well! If it were alive, it would have been a loyal, dependable friend.
10.As 90s kids, the Ambassador for us was not just a car - it was an icon that reflected the age we grew up in. With the end of its production, it is not an exaggeration to say that it is the end of an era.
