Actor Nawazuddin Siddique finds it strange that people start instantly judging him when he talks about a pay hike. "Every man wants a pay hike, what's wrong in that?" asks the actor, who feels that acting is also like any other profession where one deserves a salary hike and promotion with time. Nawaz, who was also recently in news for taking up his first brand endorsement but has been mum on the issue all this while, now boldly confirms it, saying, "Yes, I am endorsing a mobile phone."
Nawazuddin Siddiqui received Special Jury Award for his performance in four films across the year - Talaash, Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur and Dekh Indian Circus.
After a dozen blink-and-miss roles, Nawaz rose to fame in Bollywood in 2011 with his tough cop act in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani. Ever since, he has given critically-acclaimed performances in films including Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2 (2011), Talaash (2012), The Lunchbox (2013) and Miss Lovely (2014). Shy and humble, yet very assertive, the seasoned actor feels that there is a gap in the remuneration of actors' and stars' in the industry.
"Actors should be paid like stars ... actors in fact have a bigger fan following than stars so why shouldn't they get paid well?" asks the man from Muzaffarnagar, who has been living in Mumbai for over a decade now, and considers it home.
"Yes, Mumbai is home now, and that's why I'm trying to get my voter ID card registered here because I have to keep going back to my home town to vote, and as an actor based out of Mumbai it's not always practically possible to leave your commitments and go out of station," says the 39-year-old, who'll next be seen alongside Salman Khan in Kick, and is also working on another film titled Babumoshai Bandukbaj as well as director Sriram Raghavan's next untitled project.
