plus, i do not think there is any pre-requisite for loving cinema...if i say i love quintein tarantino after watching kill bill, that dosent mean i have to watch all films he directed to justify my love for him...i love hindi films but i havent seen guru dutt's pyaasa which is iconic for the industry...that dosent mean im faking my love for hindi films...even if what kareena saw was limited work, if she liked it, i dunt see anything wrong with her saying she does...

I disagree with you about dubbing being half the job. It is impossible to dub for someone unless they've delivered the lines properly, so if anything, the dubbing is a shared job between the actor and the dubbing artiste. And national awards do not consider dubbed performances because somewhere it is completely not only the actor's work. And that is justified also. But I don't think a truly passionate actor will think about decorations like awards before taking the challenge to do a film in a different language. And I'm just saying generally that it is quite a challenge and not everyone is game for it. Just like some actors don't do much action movies because they are not ready to challenge themselves. But there are actors who are equally petrified of action but still undergo training because they love challenging themselves. So yes, those who go the extra mile, it is laudable, and those who don't, it is their shortcoming which they're not willing to overcome.

And yes of course you can love Hindi cinema without watching Pyaasa (I never said you have to watch all the films). But if you don't know who Amitabh Bachchan is or Aamir Khan is, then I will doubt your credentials. Ditto with Kareena here.

anywayz...i dunt deny there might be people who dunt know her...but my arguments were countering ur point that "most" in the south have "no clue" about her...which i think is quite the exaggeration.

She might be on shampoo bottles or hair oil bottles, so are a lot of models (Yes models and not actresses). So for them she is just another model whose name is irrelevant.

@Bold: That's because a staggering 70-75% of the population lives in rural areas, coupled with the poor living in urban areas. If that's not most, what is?

well the former para is ur opinion...i dunt agree with it completely...but to each his own...

my point was that my opinion on hindi films was based on what i saw...similarly hers was based on whatever she saw down the south...one dosent need any credentials to say so...love for cinema isnt exactly a credential that one needs to prove...its just an opinion one has based on what they have been exposed to...

yes 70-75 % live in rural areas, but i doubt the demographic ur referring to (i.e rural areas which are extremely secluded to national media/films) would not encompass as large a percentage as that...most of them know who deepika, katrina etc are...and yes...by their names...

That's fine, no one can stop her from loving or hating anything.

But think like this, had the very few films she watched in the South were bad movies, would the statement "I hate South Indian movies" still sound fine to you? That would just tell that there's nothing profound in her statements, just superficiality.

Most of them are exposed to regional media and they talk very less about Hindi cinema. There was a survey conducted by the India Today group in 2007-08 about the most recognised actresses in India. She didn't even figure in the list.

but superficiality is different to "faking it"...faking it means that she has no clue about it and is just saying things for the heck of it or to sound nice...which is what i believe most people here had a problem with...
superficiality means that she has some clue about it, albeit not a very well informed one and has based her opinions on that...

It can be the truth or a lie. But it is superficial. There is no way to verify the veracity of her statements.

But then if your love for something is superficial, it's most likely not there.

disagree...this isnt necessarily "love" in its purest context as in unconditinal, profound and deep...
the way i read her statement, love is used as a synonym for admiration or appreciation or "have a high regard for"...which can exist even if u dunt have such a deep and profound exposure to that field...

and as for the india today survey, i dunt seem to be aware of such a thing and i find it hard to believe ...especially if the survey was conducted country wide and not just in the south...but ...i guess i'll take ur word for it...do u perhaps have a link for it? just out of curiosity coz i cant seem to find it..
