This is to put a different perspective on things.
There has always been talks of Katrina Kaif and her ancestry. That she does not have any ancestry from India at all. That is even why some don't like her. She is an imposter and talentless and should not be in Bollywood.
That does not bother me. If anything she is pretty much the first non Indian to have commercial success in Bollywood. Her intentions at the start may have been about money but does she make films and lives in the UK alienating herself from audiences. No. She has pretty much started her life in India calling it her home. She has reinvented herself, even noticed how her accent has changed over time. HOWEVER her look is quite common and that has been a big advantage. She has been able to blend in with the population and Bollywood actresses.
BUT...
What about Karan Kapoor. His story was much more reputable than Katrinas. He pretty much had a story that was quite reputable. His father was the well known actor of Bollywood SASHI KAPOOR. His mother British actress Jennifer Kendal. He grew up in India, spoke Hindi,started out as a model and then tried his hand in Bollywood, which was inevitable as both his parents were known actors.
But he was never successful. Was in a few films but virtually become non existent. He did not look Indian enough. Sometimes makes me wonder if things would be different if he had dyed his hair black. Got a tan. I guess Indian audiences at the time where not ready to accept him even though he was the son of Sashi Kapoor. He was rarely even given screen time.
It's all quite interesting. One who is not Indian but looks it accepted. One who is half Indian but does not look it and rejected.
