She had improved alot in highway as compared to SOTY so i give it to her for that, i was one of those who thought why is she in SOTY , she had nothing to offer other than wearing those short clothes in that movie.. But she was good in highway, still their is alot of room for improvement and she has just entered so she has time..

I always felt she had a crush on varun when i watched those SOTY promotion events, looks like she is very fond of him..

I shall save my sympathy for the people who are 17 or 25 or 35 who come starry eyed with dreams to be actors and are reduced to background dancers, have to put up with casting couches of both sexes, grabby hands of heros, sell their bodies to make ends meet. If Alia felt bad for the negative reactions, she should blame her parents who did not prepare her enough. She could walk in to meet Karan Johar who most people can't. So I will never apologize or feel bad for having different standards for non-star kids and star kids.

That said, I really admire her for taking criticism and shutting people up with Highway. That shows she really belongs here, but I will still rip her apart for her Tamil accent in 2 states. 😉 for it is about acting and playing a character. I don't care if the actor is 10 or 100, if I have to pay to see your face on screen, you have redeeming qualities or I will rip you apart, no mercy. I am all about paisa vasool 😆

I will also say I feel sorry for these star kids because of the lives their parents lead. Money truly cannot buy happiness and that is where Iam grateful for my middle class upbringing.

Have you read the book two states? because in the book the character did not have 'tamil accent' it was clearly mention in the book when the male character meets her and notice this about her.

I love Alia. Irrespective of much IFers make fun of her, this girl has a lot to offer. She keeps surprising me with her sincerity, depth and dedication. There's a lot more to her.

We all have a distinct way we pronounce a language which is dependent on many factors. Everyone has an accent, but we recognize something only if it is different from ours.

As for 2 states, If I remember correctly the first time they met, Ananya was having a problem with how Sambar and Rasam tasted and was arguing with the cook? with a heavy South Indian accent . I assume she was not talking in Tamil but in either Hindi or English then as Krish could understand her. Ananya was obviously the better educated she could speak hindi or English like the way Krish was used to, but the cook was uneducated and had a stronger accent which Krish noticed ?

But I am referring to the way Alia in the Ananya character speaks Tamil which I saw in a clip. She has mugged up the Tamil dialogue and just blurts it out, not even recites it like a poem which has inflection. No girl brought in Chennai will speak like that. Her Tamil accent aka the way she speaks Tamil is integral to the character she plays which denotes where she comes from. It is jarring to someone like me who knows the language. Her tamil lines should have been dubbed.

Damn. This girl is honest. I really liked her interview. I don't believe her when she talks about Arjun though. There seems to be something there.

She comes across as someone over confident and arrogant, but I'm glad she talked openly about her insecurities and her confidence post SOTY. As long as she stays level headed without being over-confident she should be fine. She needs to work hard on her acting though. That doesn't come naturally to her. It will be interesting to watch her growth over the next 5-10 years.
