whats the criteria on deciding 'critical acclaim'?

Cinema is subjective, so I think its one which has mainly gotten positive reviews for.

I'm counting on unbiased reviews here.

I agree, nobody should rely on reviews, and should decide on their own whether they like it or not.

But then again, why would i waste my money on something like Yaariyan, when some months later, i can watch it on tv, if i want to?

Critics give 2/2.5 to a movie directed by a critically acclaimed director during the release, still the movie makes money.. Later the movie bags all the critics choice awards and nominations.

Yeah, critics point of view changes every third month.

Yep.

Ram Leela as well. As far as I can remember.. critics rating was not that good, still it got nominations on most critics award categories.

But Mogli, the 'critics awards' in the award functions are not decided by these same critics right? They are decided by a jury comprising some directors, actors and so on. So how can we say opinion of the critics changed? Award kisko dena hai ye toh kisi aur ne decide kiya, critics ne nahi.

If the movie is CRITICALly acclaimed, most times its in ICU unit and not in Box office.

I read that Sholay was bashed by most critics of those days, saying its too violent, western copy, too long etc.. for a whole week ppl who watched it even had confusing reactions.. and then storm of WOM followed. Rest is history.

I dont comment abt Bollywood critics, its a waste of time. As for me, I have certain expectations from certain movies. It my expectations r met, good. If not.. bad.

My expectations changes from FDFS to wait for crap dvd, to wait for original dvd to if its on indian channels to NO< I M NEVER GONNA WATCH THIS MOVIE.

And for me I m the best critic for myself.. and it applies to every1 here I guess. 😎 Baki sab timepass.

Calling it Jury Award is alright. Why do they call it Critics Choice award then if the head of the jury is Farah Khan? 😆

Yes you are right, it should be called jury award rather than critics choice award. Or some renowned critics should be on the jury. If the critics had their way, I think most of the critics awards for 2013 would have been won by Dhanush or Rajkummar Rao.

Dhoom 3 was nice btw ..i too rated it 3.5 stars..

though Rowdy Rathore never deserved 4 stars..i gave it 2/5 😃

Some critics are good, and gives appropriate ratings/reviews. Actually you should depend on what the majority says. I like IMDB more. IMDB critics/ratings/reviews are way better 😳
