Since most of the critics are biased- how do you decide?
for instance- taran adrash gave movies like
D3
Rowdy Rathore
and many more
like 4 stars or something
I am sure many others must have done the same
Based on that- these would be critically acclaimed too?
whats the criteria?

As long as Cherry does a Gadar with Desi Magic, who cares about the critics? 🤣

Good question Koiza cuz even I'm lost in this one. Critics are either paid by the movie makers these days to get more stars cuz honestly I don't understand their ratings or reviews

Most of the reviews these days are nothing but a synopsis of the story with zilch on technical aspects of the movie making. This is why I prefer IF members' views on movies rather than those so called critics

Guys like Taran Adarsh & Komal Nahta are more like trades analyst. Their reviews are often based on star power and potential box office success.
Critical acclaim is when the film gets positive reviews for majority of critics overall including Anupama Chopra, Rajeev Masand, Raja Sen etc... If a film atleast has 70% positive reviews. It will be considered critically successful

Most of these critics are idiots...doubtlessly, at least from what I've seen of them.
about criteria...its your own opinion, and one make the standards for a movie. However yet broadly defined I guess it is about how much a movie influences, how much content is surprisingly fresh and hits the nail...and so on.

If the general opinion of critics on a movie is positive, ie, most of them give up a thumbs up to the movie, then it wud be called critically acclaimed. It wont be called critically acclaimed if just one or two critics say its really good.

For example: SDR got good reviews from most of the critics. Even raja sen and mihir fadnavis who are considered strict liked the movie. So it was called critically acclaimed. Similarily, kai po che, lootera, shahid, lunchbox were unanimously praised. And these opinions stayed constant with time- all these movies were included by critics in the best of 2013 list at the end of the year.
Compare that to a film like zanjeer, which got 4 stars from subhash k jha and 0 stars from all the other critics. Or yaariyan, which got good review only from taran adarsh.
Sometimes it does happen though that its not necessarily the critic being bought by money, but genuinely just having a different opinion. For ex: mihir fadnavis genuinely liked ghanchakkar whereas it was panned by everyone else.

The above thread gives us a reality check on how much over rated some of these so called CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED movies are...I was shocked to read that some of the movies that have been put on a pedestal...have been trashed by the members... 😆

OMG yes...I so agree with you...Why would anyone not rely on their own judgment and rely on these critics to tell them if a movie is good or not?...If I don't like a movie..its worthless for me...no matter how many damn stars these critics give it... 😆 😆
