Parineeti Chopra: the Vidya Balan of our generation

Sweta Kaushal, Hindustantimes.com New Delhi, February 07, 2014

Parineeti Chopra and Siddharth Malhotra will be seen on Comedy Nights with Kapil promoting their film Hasee Toh Phasee. Browse through.more photos Parineeti Chopra made a remarkable debut in the forgettable film Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. She impressed the audience with her acting prowess in the film and moved on to deliver performances like Ishaqzaade and Shuddh Desi Romance.

Her latest movie Hasee Toh Phasee, too, seems to have floored the critics.

With a national award in her two-year-long career in the industry, Parineeti has made a mark for herself. Just like Vidya Balan, Chopra can carry a film on her shoulders alone.

Of the four films that she has featured in, three have set box office on fire and all of them had critics singing laurels for her acting prowess.

The other actress, who has been box office queen in recent times, is Deepika Padukone. Unlike Padukone, Parineeti's roles have mostly defied stereotypes. Padukone's fame rose with big hits like Chennai Express and Race 2. Unfortunately, Deepika played the Bollywood stereotypes in these movies - just looking pretty and acting all in love with the hero.

In Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2012), Parineeti's character was a talkative girl who appeared cliched on the surface but had layers of confidence and self-dependence. Parineeti grabbed the Filmfare and IIFA award for best debut.

In Ishaqzaade (2013), Chopra plays a Muslim girl who is far from the stereotype of a typical small-town girl. She is independent, educated and has a mind of her own. This Habib Faisal's directorial venture got Parineeti her first National Film Award (Special Mention).

Maneesh Sharma's Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) was a film that was again, fresh, youthful and broke myths of stereotypes. Parineeti and Sushant Singh Rajput played an unmarried couple living together in Kanpur.

With Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), Parineeti has already raised the bar for heroines. Playing the hero will soon be the new fashion statement in Bollywood.

Yes! Finally people are coming to agree that Dimple, Zoya and Gayatri were not similar, and Pari's NOT being stereotyped! So so happy to read all the positive reviews about her acting prowess! Truly, one of the best actresses of our generation!

And Vidya Balan belonged to which generation?

More than Vidya, I'd say Bollywood's Jennifer Lawrence. Good actress, delivers commercial success, overshadows her co-stars even in rom coms.

though I haven't read the article, but still 👎🏼 First point...Vidya belongs to this generation..its not as if they are 20-30 years apart...and second until now...NO COMPARISON. Neither onscreen... nor offscreen...definitely not. I don't think anyone from current actress possess honesty, boldness and confidence in this way. It's Vidya Balan's "generation" if said in the article's kinda language, and if Parineeti has been compared to Ranbir Kapoor or anyone else, then Vidya has been claimed as "female hero" and has been compared with SRK, Aaamir kinda actors. And till now, PArineeti hasn't done a single movie with herself as the lead, without a male actor' support.

LMAO.
Parineeti's pr is about to become as annoying as Mata Laxmi's herself.

Pfft. Deepika got far more praise for CE than SRK did. she also stole the show inYJHD, and of course the way she immersed herself into her role as leela = LOVE. Maybe Race 2 can be criticised.

that said, i think vidya will die upon reading this comparison

I'm not crazy about either of them so don't really care.but I'd like to know what Pari actually did so far to be called a Vidya balan? I don't think I watched such a character or performance of Pari yet. 😕
