Here is the problem. It often seems that the big guns in Bollywood are held on a pedestal and beyond criticism or reproach. Whenever someone less accomplished pokes fun or criticizes them in any way it is deemed unclassy and out of line.- Actually no, it is not about big guns or small ones. Anybody who passes personal remarks, especially on someone they don't even know is indeed very low and classless. And doing it on a public platform, where your words are bound to reach the people you called names makes it even worse because it will definitely hurt them. So, whoever would have done it, my stance would be the same. Please don't make it look as if I am saying it because a B-lister is saying it. Had it been anyone in his place, I'd've said the same.
Personally, I don't find calling someone boring' is a major insult or classless comment in anyway. It is a very subjective opinion based on personal interests. If you're into something, it becomes exciting. If you're not into something, it becomes boring. Some people call cricket boring, some people find museums boring, some people even find movies themselves boring. I don't get why it is a big deal that Emraan found Aamir boring. - By that logic, I guess you can call Sachin boring because you're not into cricket, or call A R Rahman boring because you're not into music. That would be foolish. Anyway the point here is that if he had criticized a movie of his or his acting and called it boring, it would have been fine. But he passed a comment on his personality. That is just wrong.
Calling someone plastic' may be a tad bit insulting, but I find him refreshingly honest in this aspect. - "tad bit" would be putting it mildly. Mahesh Bhatt who was right next to him termed it a vicious attack.
As a teenager I was gaga over Ash because she was so gorgeous and rooted for her career. As I grew older, I started finding her quite fake and conceited. I loathed her when she started getting painted as someone representing and promoting Bollywood abroad. I found that she was putting on a very pretentious, unrealistic and elitist portrayal of Bollywood and pandering to western ignoramus about India. I find that filmmakers like Mira Nair and Gurinder Chadda actually made Indian culture and Bollywood appealing to the west. I find that people like Irfan Khan and Anupam Kher have represented Indian cinema in a more distinguished manner than the over the top histrionics of Ash. Yet for some reason Ash is revered as someone special and out of this world. Bollywood appears to keep sucking up to her. - Conceited? She is anything but conceited and vain. She is a person who always rubbished the most beautiful woman talk. She never praised herself or looked down upon people who were not of her stature. She has consistently been down to earth and humble. Yes she is reserved towards people who she does not know and I guess that is what gives her tags like "ice maiden" "cold" etc. She was quite dignified in the representation of her country abroad. Bollywood does anything but suck up to her! In fact half the industry was against Ash for her fight with the Khans. She came up the hard way. She is a survivor! But I'm sure you wouldn't agree because you admittedly loathe her. So let's agree to disagree.
Even when she has done nothing for a long time she is all that. So I actually really do admire people who break the status quo and call her out for what she really is - pure 100% unadulterated plastic. But yeah, I can see why it is a big deal and super major insult that Emraan dared to criticize Ash. It is like the street sweeper has no right to say something against the queen. How dare he? How dare a lowly sweeper even cast his eye upon royalty. Because Emraan isn't amidst the Khans and the Bacchans, he will always be looked down as serial kissing semi-po*n actor who makes B-grade flicks by the grace of his family. That means he doesn't have the right to look above and comment on them. - Please continue your admiration for him. I never said he could not voice his opinion, he has the right to, no matter how shitty it is. I find him a talentless hack who is here because of his well connected filmy family, despite which he could not make it big and continues to be a B list actor known for his sleazy titillating films. It is my opinion that he has no class for having made personal attacks on highly accomplished self-achievers when he is the complete opposite.
Finally, I'm not really sure what ailing son has to do anything with the kind of comments people make. Class and behavior has absolutely nothing to do with the health of a person or their family member. I'm sorry but - Oh your son is sick, be nice, sugarcoat everything you say and don't rub anyone the wrong way just seems extremely illogical to me. At least I cannot fathom changing who I am or how I express myself based on the health of my loved ones. - When you see your ailing son, you feel his pain. And you wouldn't want to inflict pain on someone else by passing catty comments on them. That's what I meant.
