Newlywed John Abraham landed in Mumbai sans wife Priya

John Abraham landed at Mumbai international airport sans his new bride Priya Abraham, (Priya Runchal). John tied the knot with Priya Runchal in Los Angeles in a private ceremony. The couple had a registry marriage in Los Angeles which was attended by only close family members and relatives.

John landed on Friday morning without wife Priya. She stayed back with her folks in LA and will be moving to Mumbai only in February. "She's highly qualified and has worked for the World Bank in the past. She will easily find a top banking job in the city," John's father informed.

The actor's father Abraham John, confirmed the news saying the marriage was pre-planned, "The New Year wedding was planned months in advance. It was entirely their decision," he revealed, adding with a smile, "Whenever Priya was in Mumbai -- she worked here for a long time -- she would always drop by to see us. She is an intelligent girl and a good match for John."

The small ceremony took place at a plush estate in West LA with the bride and groom's family and friends in attendance. "It was a court marriage registered with the local magistrate in the Californian capital. We don't believe in any particular religion and are an extremely secular family which is why John and Priya decided to go for a court marriage. Traditional rituals only cause a lot of confusion," John's elated father said.

John's close friend and director of Vicky Donor, Shoojit Sircar said, "Both Priya and he are very private people and didn't want to make a big halla bol about their marriage. During the filming of Madras Cafe I understood his dilemma. He'd often wonder aloud how he should go about it. This had been on the cards for a long time and I knew that when it happened this was exactly how it would be, knowing John as well as I do," he pointed out.

Shoojit describes Priya as a "friendly girl who likes her own space" and admits she doesn't know too many names from the film industry. Movies are new to her. "We spoke briefly about movies, about India and living in London where she was studying and working. She came across as a simple, straight-forward person, much like John himself," said the filmmaker.

Priya is an NRI financial analyst and investment banker; possibility is high that she might take charge of John's production company, J A Entertainment? "That's a personal matter between them. All I know is that she was studying and wanted to continue with her studies," said Shoojit.

There will be no celebration in Mumbai, "No, we are a very simple family, not given to overindulgence. Whatever has to be done, is done, "Abraham senior stated.
