Kill The Rapist? trailer out: Hard-hitting and disturbing promo calls for some soul searching

A year after the brutal gang-rape of a paramedical student rocked the nation, Bollywood (usually accused of objectification of women, leading to rapes) has decided to do its bit to promote the cause of women's safety in India.

Director Sanjay Chhel's thriller Kill The Rapist? dwells on this burning issue and it's the director's take on the subject that makes you sit up and take notice.

The first trailer gives us a disturbing account of what 3 girls go through when they are stalked, threatened and sexually assaulted by a small-time goon.

The trailer also highlights the apathy of the authorities and the system when the protagonist's (Anjali Patil) plea to the police falls on deaf ears as a female police officer gives the victim a dismissive look and says, "Cycle ki chori aur rape bahut common hain yahan par".

As you watch the trailer further, the hard-hitting scenes and dialogues will make you realise that the director has made no bones about what he wants to say through his film.

After suffering endless mental and physical torture at the hands of their rapist, the girls turn the tables as they resort to violence and brutality to seek revenge.

While this road to justice is highly debatable, the director invites the viewers to decide the fate of the rapist in the film and turns the name of the film into a question.

This approach is likely to remind you of William Castle's Mr Sardonicus, in which the viewers were invited to make a similar call.
