Sid Mallya (he's officially changed his name from Siddhartha to Sid) has been in Los Angeles, trying to make it as a Hollywood actor. Back in India now, he talks about his acting plans, and about alleged ex-flame Deepika Padukone. He also looks back to the time "when we (Deepika and him) weretogether", thereby confirming what had only been rumours till now.

Are you in touch with Deepika?
We speak occasionally. I met her at a wedding (in Bengaluru) a few days back. She has been busy with many releases. And with me being in America, you aren't going to be in touch as much...

Have you seen her current films?

No, but I've seen a couple of her past ventures. When we were together, I watched Desi Boyz (2011). I also saw Aarakshan (2011). I really liked her in that film.

A lot was said about you, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh attending a party hosted by Deepika.
I don't see what the big deal is. I've always stayed friendly with my exes. I'm lucky too, because I've never ended any of my relationships on bad terms... If someone has been important to you at some point, you can't just cut them out from your life.

Does news of Deepika dating someone else upset you?
I don't care... I'll always be protective of her, because, as I said, I'm friends with my exes.

🤢 We hear you're trying to make it as an actor in Hollywood.
I've been in Los Angeles over the last year-and-a-half. I've always had this side of me that wanted to perform. During IPL 2012, I did my own online chat show, which got a lot of attention. Everyone said You've got great screen presence.' But I won't do something until I've had training. You can't wake up one morning and decide you're an astronaut. So I can't just wake up and decide I'm an actor, so I started from the beginning. 🤢

Does Deepika know about your acting aspirations?
I haven't sat with Deepika and asked for advice. But she knows what I'm up to. The way I wish her luck and happiness in whatever she does, I'm sure she will wish me too.

Were you aware of her being romantically linked to Ranveer?
What they choose is their business; not mine, or anyone else's. They've just made a great film. People should focus on that because that's what they do.

What's happening with your acting career?
The showcase (the actor-hunt show ABC Talent Showcase) is done. 😕 I had a meeting and have signed with one of the biggest management agencies in America.

You didn't want to be part of Bollywood. Is that still the case?
I don't want to do something for the sake of doing it. I'm not interested in fame; I want to be the best at what I do. I don't think I can be the best in Bollywood, because I never watched Bollywood films. I grew up in the west. So tomorrow, if I go and do a Bollywood film, you can tell straight away that I'm a foreigner. So I don't think I have the right sensibility for Bollywood.
