Nothing new. SRK used to say the same thing in his early 90s interviews too. And Aamir used to call SRK and Salman as bigger stars.

It's not politeness nor ageing. It's their tactic. Polite ways of labelling each other. Like SRK has labelled Aamir as the finest "actor" even if he does a Dhoom or starts 100 cr/200 cr clubs. While Aamir dubs SRK as a star or charming personality and "compliments" Salman as the one with most fan following and someone who "just" has to adjust his belt or glasses to get people swooning.

I don't call this mutual complimenting. They still try to slot each other as actor, star, romantic hero, style bhai or serious guy.

Talking about each other was always something that got Khans more attention, whether when they were new or when likes of HR arrived and now when Ranbir is making inroads to top slot.

This behaviour kills two birds with one stone for them - keep narrative centered around them only and slot the other rival.

Publicity and brownie points for fake humility are other bonus.

Otherwise who's forgotten, "my dog's name is Shahrukh" and the repartee "my dog refused to be named Aamir". 😆
